To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav David Nathan Lesser (note 1: See, on his subject, Letters no. 4971, 6619, and 6986),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your wax candles, which are intended for Chanukah*, and I thank you. May Hashem* grant, according to the well-known teaching of our Sages*, cited by the Ramban* at the beginning of Parshas* Behaaloscha, that the lights of Chanukah* be eternal (note 2: Being the continuation of the lights of the Menorah*, lit in the Temple). And one deduces from this, as the Ramban* does, that the same applies to the other blessings — those of the Kohanim*, which also shall never cease.

In our days and very soon, the promise (note 3: Of the blessing of the Kohanim*) shall be fulfilled according to which: "Hashem* shall shine His face upon you... and He shall give you peace," according to the interpretation of our Sages*, stated in the Sifri*, Bamidbar* 6:25-26: "He shall shine: as it is said, 'Arise, my light, for your light has come.' And He shall give you peace: this is the peace of the kingdom of the house of David, as it is said, 'to multiply the dignity and for a peace without limits,'" through the coming of the prince of peace who shall multiply this dignity — our righteous Moshiach*. With my blessing for a good month and to convey good news, always and every day,

מאשר הנני בתודה קבלת נרות שעוה, שמשים לנרות חנוכה.

ויהי רצון שע"פ מאמר רז"ל הידוע (הובא ברמב"ן ר"פ בהעלותך) דנרות חנוכה הן הנרות הקיימות לעולם, ומזה למדים רז"ל אשר הברכות, ברכות כהנים, ג"כ אינן בטלות לעולם, (עיי"ש ברמב"ן).

הנה בימינו ובקרוב ממש, יקוים היעוד, יאר ה' פניו אליך וגו' וישם לך שלום, וכפירוש רז"ל, יאר גו' שנאמר קומי אורי כי בא אורך, וישם לך שלום - זה שלום מלכות בית דוד, שנאמר למרבה המשרה ולשלום אין קץ (ספרי במדבר ו, כה כו) ביאת שר שלום המרבה המשרה הוא משיח צדקנו.
