To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, Rav Yaakov (note 1: Rav Y. Karasik, of San Francisco), the Shochet*,

Greetings and blessings,

I have received a request for a blessing for you, from the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, who devotes himself to communal needs, who has good conduct, Rav Yosef Chaim HaKohen Rosenfeld. At a propitious moment, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, so that you may obtain the satisfaction of all your needs.

The merit of your action and your effort to strengthen and develop the Talmud Torah* that he (note 2: Rav Rosenfeld) directs will protect you and enable you to obtain everything you desire, as well as the members of your family — which includes, of course, the improvement of your state of health — in accordance with the blessing you request and according to the teaching delivered by the Alter Rebbe* on Simchas Torah* 5540 (note 3: 1779), which was transmitted to us by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, in his discourse of Simchas Torah* 5699 (note 4: 1938). This text is based on the Zohar*, volume 3, page 52b, and it affirms that the words of the verse: "She (note 5: The Torah*) is a tree of life for those who strengthen themselves in her" apply to those who use their intellectual capacities to study the Torah*, whereas "those who support her are happy" alludes to those who devote themselves to the service of Hashem* and to the Torah*. And the Zohar* further says: "Do not read Meushar (happy), but Merosho (at His head)," which corresponds to the profound dimension of the Ein Sof*, blessed be He. What has just been said evokes the quality of the foot, thanks to which the head maintains its stability. With my blessing to convey good news,

P.S.: You surely have knowledge of the three fixed studies, pertaining to the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*. As we have heard many times from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, these concern everyone and are beneficial in various domains.

מיוסד על מאמר הזהר (ח"ג דנ"ב ע"ב) עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה אלו בעלי השגה הלומדים תורה, ותומכי' מאושר, אלו בעלי עבודה העוסקים בתורה, מאושר גליקלעך כדאי' בזהר (הנ"ל) א"ת מאושר אלא מראשו, דע"י עבודתם ממשיכים מראשו היינו מפנימית הא"ס ב"ה וכמעלת הרגל המקים את הראש דוקא.
