You inform me of the problem encountered by a certain person regarding the coins set aside for Tzedakah*. Sometimes, she forgets them, or she is not at home (note 1: Being thus prevented from making a daily donation). Now, it seems to me I have already written to her clearly that she should not make a vow of it. If she did not proceed in this way, she should release herself from her vow before three people and, in the future, she should adopt this practice without making a vow. Of course, Tzedakah* is not necessarily an immediate donation into a charity box or into the hand of the poor. If neither is at hand, it suffices to place the money in an envelope prepared for this purpose, which one can do even while walking, on the way. Likewise, you will arrange with this person the second point mentioned in your letter, which is obviously much more important than the preceding one.

May Hashem* grant that this person not only draw close, but also integrate, in every respect, among the Chassidim*, adding and advancing, "moistening herself to the point of moistening others," including in the milieu in which she previously moved. No doubt you are preparing, sufficiently in advance, a detailed program in order to take advantage of the month of liberation (note 2: Of the Alter Rebbe* from the Czarist prisons, on the 19th, and then of his son, the Mitteler Rebbe*, on the 10th) and miracles (note 3: In particular that of Chanukah*) — that of Kislev* — particularly its propitious days, the 10th and 19th of Kislev*, as well as Chanukah*, in order to strengthen Judaism in general and to spread the wellsprings (note 4: Of Chassidus*) until they reach the outside, in particular. ... במ"ש ע"ד מר... שי' בנדון הפרוטות לצדקה, שלפעמים שוכח או שאינו נמצא בביתו, כמדומה שכבר כתבתי לו זה בפירוש, שצ"ל זה באופן דבלי נדר, ובאם לא עשה כן הרי יתיר הענין בפני שלשה, ומכאן ולהבא יעשה בלי נדר, כן מובן שענין הצדקה, אין הדיוק לתת הפרוטות תיכף בקופה של צדקה או לתתם תומ"י לעני, כי באם אין שני הענינים מהמוכן, יש להניח הכסף במעטפה מיוחדה וכיו"ב, והרי כל זה אפשרי גם בלכתך בדרך וכו'. כן בטח יסדר עמו הענין השני שמזכיר במכתבו, שהוא כמובן חשוב יותר.

ויהי רצון אשר לא רק יתקרב הנ"ל אלא יוכלל בתוככי אנ"ש בכל עניניו באופן דמוסיף והולך ועד שיהי' טופח ע"מ להטפיח גם בסביבתו מעבר.

בודאי מכינים בעוד מועד תכנית מפורטת לניצול ימי חדש הגאולה והנסים הוא חדש כסלו ובפרט ימי סגולה דיו"ד וי"ט כסלו וחנוכה להחזקת היהדות בכלל ולהפצת המעינות עד שיגיעו גם חוצה ביחוד, ויהי רצון שיהי' בהצלחה גדולה.
