By the grace of Hashem*,

14 MarCheshvan* 5719,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter requesting a blessing, dated 9 Cheshvan*. At a propitious moment, it will be read at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us. May Hashem* grant that you convey good news of this. It is, moreover, evident that since you are making this request, you must adopt an addition to the practice of the Torah* and the Mitzvos* — which, of course, includes exercising a positive influence on those around you, drawing them close to our Father Who is in heaven. Such is the meaning of the injunction: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," which is "a great principle of the Torah*." This increases the blessings of Hashem*, through which He will positively fulfill the wishes of your heart.

It seems to me that we spoke about your adoption of the three well-known studies, which pertain to the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*. At the very least, you will adopt them in the future. With my blessing to convey good news of all this,

For the Rebbe Shlita*,

the secretary,

P.S.: The Chassidim* of Poland had the custom of saying that a groom standing under the wedding canopy finds himself in a propitious moment to obtain the fulfillment of all the requests of his heart. This assertion is founded on various teachings of our Sages* — in particular, the fact that all his transgressions are pardoned for one who marries, that "the groom resembles a king," and above all, that he is comparable, when he enters under the wedding canopy, to "the day of your creation, in Gan Eden*, beforehand" — before the sin of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil, when the world still knew perfection. This is not the case, however, for the reasons given by the early Sages*, which are not specific to the moment when one stands under the wedding canopy. This is self-evident.
