Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 5 Cheshvan*, in which you tell me that some people mock you because you study our holy Torah* in a Yeshiva*. As you know, the four parts of the Shulchan Aruch* begin with: "One shall not be affected by those who mock." You will consult what the Tur* and the Rama* say on this subject. On the contrary, if you are affected by these mockeries, this will have no end and the fall will go lower and lower, which Hashem* forbid. Since the children of Israel received the Torah* on Mount Sinai, the nations mock them, as the Midrashim* of our Sages* explain. But the Jews have maintained their faith in Hashem*, Who gives the Torah*, directs the world and all that concerns it.

Hashem* also ensures the sustenance of a person and his family, and one says, in the blessing that follows the meal, instituted by the Torah*, that He "nourishes the entire world through His goodness, His grace, His kindness, and His mercy." It is therefore quite evident that by intensifying one's study of the Torah* and one's practice of the Mitzvos*, one receives increased means of sustenance, when one needs them.

May Hashem* grant that you study, with ardor and constancy, the revealed part of the Torah* and Chassidus*, that you fulfill the Mitzvos* in the best manner. In this way, you will multiply the blessings of the One Who gives the Torah*, in everything that concerns you, as well as for the members of your family. You surely have knowledge of the three fixed daily studies, which pertain to the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*. At the very least, you will adopt them in the future. במענה למכתבו מה' חשון, בו כותב שיש כאלו שמלעיגים ממנו על מה שלומד בישיבה לימוד תורתנו הק'.

וכבר ידוע שהתחלת כל חלקי הד' שו"ע והיסוד שלהם הוא הענין שאל יבוש מפני המלעיגים, עיין שם בטור וברמ"א, ואדרבה באם מתרשמים מהמלעיגים הרי אין לדבר סוף, ומתדרדרים ח"ו למטה מטה וכו' ומעת שקבלו ישראל את התורה במעמד הר סיני, הלעיגו עליהם או"ה וכמבואר במדרשי חז"ל, אלא שישראל עמדו חזק באמונתם בהשי"ת ויתעלה שהוא הנותן התורה והוא גם מנהיג העולם וכל עניניו ובזה גם פרנסתו של האדם ומשפחתו, וכמו שמברכים בברכת המזון, שהוא מן התורה, הזן את העולם כולו בטובו בחן ובחסד וברחמים, שמזה מובן וגם פשוט, שהוספה בלימוד התורה וקיום המצות מוסיפה כשצריכים לזה במזונותיו של אדם.

ויהי רצון שילמוד בהתמדה ושקידה נגלה וחסידות ויקיים המצות בהידור ועי"ז יתוסף בברכות נותן התורה בעניניו הוא ובעניני כל המשפחה.

בודאי יודע משלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, ועכ"פ ישמור עליהם מכאן ולהבא.
