To the great Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, of multiple accomplishments, Rav Yona (note 1: Rav Y. Shtantsel, of Tel Aviv. See, on his subject, Letter no. 3091),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter concerning the daily Mishnah* and the daily Halachah*. It reached me during the busy period of the Days of Awe* and the days of joy, of the time of our rejoicing (note 2: Rosh Hashanah*, Yom Kippur*, and Sukkos*), with everything pertaining to those days. Consequently, you will kindly excuse the delay of my response until now. Indeed, this response has no concrete implication (note 3: It does not concern concrete action and is merely a debate of ideas. The Rebbe* is presumably referring here to scholarly questions posed by the recipient of this letter in the correspondence he had addressed to him) and it was necessary, in order to formulate it, to consult, in the appropriate manner, the references you mention at the end of your letter. Regarding a call or a letter that may have come in my name, I have already explained to you, during your visit to New York (note 4: The Rebbe* expresses his own opinion himself, without having someone else do so on his behalf), that I denied all of that.

The month of Tishrei*, the seventh (note 5: Counting from Nissan*), has just ended. It was satiated with all the good, as our Sages* specify in the Midrash* Vayikra Rabbah*. It has a general bearing, projecting itself over the entire year. It concludes — since "everything goes according to the conclusion" — with the time of our rejoicing, which itself ends with Simchas Torah*. May Hashem* therefore grant you success in doing everything in your power to magnify and adorn the Torah*, in good health, with joy and enthusiasm. Our masters emphasize, indeed, that this repetition is the expression of an intense joy. You will also consult the conclusion of the Midrash* Esther Rabbah*. מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו בענין המשנה היומית והלכה יומית אשר נתקבל בעת טרדות דימים הנוראים וימי השמחה דזמן שמחתנו ועניניהם ואתו רב הסליחה על עכוב המענה עד עתה, כיון שהמענה אין נוגע בהפועל, ומובן אשר השתדלו לברר באופן המתאים באותן המקומות שמזכיר בסיום מכתבו.

אף כי בהנוגע לקו"ק או מכתב וכיו"ב בשמי, כבר בארתי טעמי ונמוקי בשלילת זה בעת בקורו של כת"ר בנויארק.

ויהי רצון שכיון שז"ע באנו מחדש תשרי הוא חדש השביעי המושבע בכל טוב כפירוש רז"ל בויקרא רבה וחדש כללי הוא לכל השנה וסיומו וחותמו שהכל הולך אחר החתום הוא זמן שמחתנו, ובסיום שלו שמחת התורה,

הנה יצליח כאו"א בתכ"י לעשות כל התלוי בו להגדיל תורה ולהאדירה מתוך בריאות ושמחה וטוב לבב וכדיוק רבותנו נשיאנו אשר כפל הלשון מורה על ריבוי השמחה, ויעוין ג"כ אסתר רבה בסופו.
