Igrot Kodesh · Letter 653 — Health

Volume 3 · Letter 259 · To: distingué ‘Hassid

By the grace of Hashem,

Erev Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av 5710,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav N. N.,[1]

I greet you and bless you.

I received your letters of 10 and 24 Tammuz, with the lists of students,[2] what concerns Merkaz LeInyanei Chinuch, and the request for a blessing. Your second letter reached me on Thursday, and finding myself near the tomb, I read the request for a blessing and the lists.

Likewise, I have just received your telegram concerning your son, and I read it in the office of the Rebbe, where he received people and granted his blessings. It is clear that the tzaddik, my father-in-law, the Rebbe, blesses, and that the Holy One, blessed be He, fulfills his blessings completely, for each and every one according to his needs.

You will not fail to give me good news concerning the state of health of your daughter and your son, which will continue to improve.

The parcel for Kozliner has been sent to him.

I was happy to learn that the dispositions concerning Merkaz LeInyanei Chinuch and Machne Israel[3] have already been followed by action. Chapter 21 of Iggeres HaKodesh explains, indeed, the importance of zerizus. Nonetheless, you will please disseminate the two conditions that are set on this subject:

1. This must in no way result in a diminution of the Maamad,[4] since it appears that the same persons occupy themselves with the one and the other.

2. It must not result, for these persons, in responsibilities that are too heavy.

You speak of the success of your mission, which is linked to the Will of Hashem. Success is inherent in this mission, as the Zohar says, vol. 3, p. 98a, in a passage we read during the night of Shavuos[5]: "He who forges a jewel and makes it shine adorns himself with it." That is indeed how one can define your action toward your students, as it is said: "Israel is a young man and I love him."

Even more, my father-in-law, the Rebbe, holds you by the hand and leads you. It is therefore necessary only to refrain from introducing any personal will. You will consult, on this subject, the Likkutei Torah Shir HaShirim, in the second discourse entitled "Tzena U'r'ena," chapter 4, which says that one who has succeeded in putting into practice the injunction "Make your will His" is not for that reason exempt from accomplishing "Nullify your will [before His]."[6]

Greeting your entire community,

M. Schneerson
