By the grace of Hashem,

28 Tammuz 5710,

To the young man, ...,[1]

I greet you and bless you.

Your father wrote to me that you became Bar Mitzvah on 11 Tammuz, and he asks for my blessing. I therefore express to you my wishes — in accordance with those of my father-in-law, the Rebbe — that you fear Hashem, be a Chassid* and a Torah scholar, that your parents conceive much satisfaction, Chassidic satisfaction, from you and from their other children, in affluence.

My father-in-law, the Rebbe, related that the Chassidic discourses pronounced by our Rebbeim on the occasion of their Bar Mitzvah were introduced by the verse "Let Us make man."[2] But when this discourse was reproduced, the introduction was sometimes deleted.

It follows that a Bar Mitzvah must be a man — Adam, in the full sense of the term. This designation is indeed the highest among the four that designate the human race — Adam, Ish, Gever, Enosh — as Hayom Yom explains on the date of 4 Elul 5703, and the second chapter of the Chassidic discourse entitled "VaYavo Amalek" of 5709,[3] which appears in booklet no. 62.

It is therefore necessary to immediately make efforts in this direction, and not to defer them. By acting in this way, one receives the necessary moral forces and one effectively becomes a man, Adam, as the Sefer HaToldos[4] says, on page 64.

You no doubt recited a Chassidic discourse on the day of your Bar Mitzvah, and you will read each day the Tehillim of the Rebbe, which is currently chapter 71.[5] You will do this, without making it a vow, at least until Rosh Hashanah 5711.

אביך שי' כתב אשר ביום י"א תמוז נעשית בר מצוה ומבקש ברכה. והנני בזה להביע ברכותי אשר, כברכות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ, תהי' ירא שמים חסיד ולמדן והוריך שי' יראו בך ובשאר ילדיהם שי' רוב נחת, חסידישן נחת, מתוך הרחבה.

סיפר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ אשר די בר מצוה מאמרים פלעגט מען (אצל הנשיאים) אנהייבן נעשה אדם (וכשניתן המאמר להעתיק השמיטו לפעמים ההתחלה).

זאת אומרת אשר הבר מצוה צריך לדעת שעליו להשיג מעלת תואר אדם שזהו היותר מעולה בארבעה התוארים אדם איש גבר אנוש (ראה היום יום ד' אלול תש"ג.

ד"ה ויבוא עמלק תש"ט - קונטרס סב - פ"ב) וצריך לעבוד בזה תיכף ולא להניח על אחר זמן, ואז מסייעין בידו שנעשה אדם (ראה ספר התולדות ע' 64).

בטח חזרת מאמר דא"ח ביום הבר מצוה ואומר בכל יום דעם רבינ'ס קאפיטעל תהלים שהוא עתה ע"א ותנהוג כן בלי נדר לכל הפחות עד ראש השנה תשי"א הבע"ל.
