Greetings and blessings,

I was pained by the news that reached me here, according to which a challenging of authority has been observed on your part within the school. In this case, it does not matter how one evaluates the situation or the comparison that might be made between the one who must obey and the director. All of this is irrelevant, for it is not a matter of comparing persons, but solely of functions. An analogy can be given in this regard, although it applies here in a much more refined manner — that of the well-known story concerning Rabbi Yehoshua and Rabban Gamliel. In this case, the evidence is even stronger, for the refusal of submission and obedience exerts on the students an effect contrary to the one that is sought.

It is in no way necessary to say more, between Rosh Hashanah* and Yom Kippur*, all the more so since during these days, one accepts authority and submits, without even invoking one's understanding and one's intellect. Thus, from Rosh Hashanah* itself, one commits to submission for the entire year. I hope to receive good news by return mail. You will tell me that from the outset, this failing was never observed, or at the very least, that it will be fully rectified in the future. With my blessing to convey these good news, that you be definitively inscribed for a good year,

נצטערתי להשמועה שהגיעה לכאן, אשר נתעורר ענין של העדר קבלת מרות ע"י כ' בבית הספר...

והנה בהנ"ל אין נוגע ואין נכנסים כלל בהערכות או בהשואות זה שעליו לקבל המשמעת והמנהל, כי אין בזה השואה בין האישים, אלא בין המשרות, ומעין דוגמא להנ"ל, אף כי בדקות דדקות, סיפור הידוע ע"ד רבי יהושע ור"ג, ואדרבה בנדון דידן ההכרח גם עוד יותר, כיון שהעדר קבלת עול ומשמעת, פועל היפך הכוונה בהחלט על התלמידים-ות שי'.

אין מהצורך כלל להאריך בענינים אלו, בין כסא לעשור ובפרט שהרי דוקא ענין ימים אלו הוא קבלת מרות ומשמעת מבלי כל נגיעה בדעת ושכל, מתחיל מקב"ע של ר"ה על כל השנה, והלואי שאתבשר טוב בדואר החוזר, שגם מלכתחלה לא הי' העדר האמור או שעכ"פ מכאן ולהבא נתתקן הענין במילואו.
