To the members of the committee of Kfar Chabad*,

may Hashem* grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I am surprised not to have had news from you for a very long time. May Hashem* grant that this be a good sign, better yet a distinctive sign — which gives it the recognition of the Torah* — establishing that everything is indeed going well.

For the time being, here is the subject of the present letter. The seventh year, that of the Shemittah*, is approaching, and no doubt all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the subsistence of those who, until now, have engaged in agricultural work, in particular the Sefardim and the Moroccans, whose settlement is far from having been fully accomplished. It is clear that they do not have several means of earning their livelihood. This letter is sent to you by express mail, given the importance of the matter. A detailed response on all of this would therefore be appreciated. With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

שלום וברכה! לפלא שזה זמן רב שאין מהם כל ידיעות, ויהי רצון שיהי' זה סימן טוב, ומה טוב סימן מובהק, שאז יש לזה אחיזה בדאורייתא שהכל בסדר ובשלום.

ועל של עתה באתי, שקרבה שנת השבע שנת השמיטה, ובודאי אחזו באמצעים מתאימים בהנוגע לעניני פרנסה של אלו, שעד עתה התעסקו בעבודת האדמה, ובפרט הספרדים והמרוקים, שעדיין אינם מבוססים כלל וכלל, ופשיטא שאין להם כמה סניפי פרנסה.

ונשלח המכתב מהיר דחוף בהתאם להכרח הדבר, ולכן גם הפרטיות בהכתיבה בזה לכאן תשובח.
