Shalom* u'vracha*,

I received your letter with satisfaction. You describe the study program of the preparatory class of the holy Yeshivah* Toras Emes* (note 2: The Yeshivah* Lubavitch of Jerusalem). Divine Providence has entrusted you with an enviable lot and you can pursue your studies in that place. And, I observe with particular pleasure, in your letter, that you also devote time outside the cycle of the Yeshivah* to the study of the Torah* and the practice of the mitzvos*, as well as to their great principle, the necessity of influencing others, as it is said: "You shall love your fellow as yourself."

May Hashem* grant that you continue all of this, that you elevate yourself from one stage to the next and that you convey to me good news. At a propitious moment, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that you know success in all of this. With my blessing to convey this good news,

You ask me about the blessing Ata Chonen*, "You grant discernment to man," recited at the conclusion of Shabbos* (note 3: The blessing of the Amidah* in which the Havdalah* is recited). You will consult, on this subject, the Shaar HaKollel*, at this reference. It seems to me that the Chassidim* do indeed recite it and that they also say Ata Chonantanu*, "You have granted us" (note 4: The Havdalah* proper).

נעם לי לקבלת מכתבו, בו כותב אודות סדר הלימודים בהמכינה של הישיבה הק' תורת אמת, אשר השגחה העליונה העמידתו על חלק היפה ללמוד בה, וביחוד נעם לי לראות במכתבו אשר גם הזמן הנשאר מחוץ להישיבה ממלאו הנהו בלימוד התורה וקיום המצות. ובהכלל גדול אשר בהם בהשפעה גם על אחרים בזה ע"פ מ"ש ואהבת לרעך כמוך, ויהי רצון שימשיך בכל האמור וילך מחיל אל חיל ויבשר טוב.
