To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

I greet you and bless you.

I reply to your letter of erev Shabbos.

I wish you Mazel Tov, Mazel Tov, on the occasion of your engagement. You will build an everlasting edifice, based on Torah and Mitzvos*, in accordance with the will of my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

In general, at this time of year, a wedding should be set in Elul or in Kislev. As for what concerns you, everything depends on the preparations of the bride.

Concerning the Tefillin* of Rabbeinu Tam, I know that young men who asked my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whether they should put them on, received the following reply: "It is a good thing." Therefore, why delay the moment of doing so, if you have already taken the decision?

You will consult, on this subject, the Sha'ar HaKollel, chapter 11, paragraph 39, which cites the Atzei Eden; the Ateres Zekenim, chapter 34, which cites the Zohar Chadash; the Os Chaim of the Munkatcher Rebbe, chapter 34, paragraph 3.

And Rav Naeh, in his halachic decisions linked to the Siddur, indicates that he does not know why young men wait for their marriage to begin wearing the Tefillin of Rabbeinu Tam.

בכלל זמני הנישואין בחדשים אלו הם באלול או בכסלו ובנדו"ד הנה, זה תלוי יותר בהכנות מצד הכלה תי'.

בנוגע להנחת תפילין דר"ת - ידוע לי מבחורים ששאלו את כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ אם להניח תפילין דר"ת וענה: א גלייכע זאך, ואם כן למה זה ידחה הנחתן לאיזה זמן, כיון שכבר החליט להניחן, וראה שער הכולל פי"א סל"ט בשם ס' עצי עדן, בעטרת זקנים סל"ד בשם ז"ח. אות חיים להגה"צ ממונקאטש סל"ד סק"ג, וכבר כתב בס' פסקי הסדור להרב נאה שלא שמע טעם מפני מה רוב הבחורים מתחילים להניח תפילין דר"ת רק לאחרי הנשואין.
