Igrot Kodesh · Letter 63 — Mishnah Memorization Campaign & Sefer Torah for Mashiach

To the important and well-known Rav, great scholar and of illustrious lineage, Rav Yehuda Leib Eliezerov Shlita,

Yerushalayim,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letters to Machaneh Yisrael*, regarding the Sefer Torah* to welcome our righteous Mashiach*, to which were attached the lists of the members of the Mishnah* by heart group and of the Sefer Torah:

A) The formation of groups for Mishnah by heart was not at all reserved for Yeshivah* students. It concerns the entire Jewish people. A campaign must be conducted so that anyone who has the ability becomes a member, learning by heart the portion entrusted to him, that is, between three and five chapters per year, meaning approximately one Mishnah per week, reciting by heart what one already knows when one is in the street or standing in a store, sitting on the train or at any other occasion, in order to purify the atmosphere. The second collection of letters of my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, has no doubt reached you and you will see there what he explains on this subject.

We are convinced that, if you organize a campaign in these terms, you will find hundreds of members, including among the merchants, who are always outside and to whom therefore apply the terms of the verse "I will find you outside." Chassidut* further specifies the quality of a merchant and some references are given elsewhere. These merchants will therefore become members of the groups.

You will note that the date of conclusion of the study, for all members, will be, with the help of Hashem, the day after Shavuot* 5703.

B) You are right to say that, in order to expand the activity of Machaneh Yisrael in our Holy Land, someone should tour all its villages. Unfortunately, we cannot afford, for now, to bear the expenses that would result. But, by searching well, you will no doubt find, in each city and village, persons living on the spot who will do the work of Machaneh Yisrael and will be its local representatives.

C) We have indeed received the receipts of the worldwide Tehillim* group, but we cannot transmit them to the donors, because the name of the Kollel* is also mentioned on them. You no doubt know that here one must be very careful regarding all financial matters and not arouse criticism. I therefore ask you to have receipts printed solely for the worldwide Tehillim group and to send them to us as quickly as possible.

D) You will find enclosed a list of the members of the worldwide Tehillim group. It would be good for you to prepare certificates, on thin paper, for each member on the list and to send them to us, after having signed them. We will forward them to their recipients.

E) Everything that is published by Machaneh Yisrael and the Merkaz LeInyonei Chinuch* is sent to you from time to time and no doubt reaches you in due course.

We will conclude with an idea from the Torah, resuming what has just been said. Thus, the purification of the atmosphere concerns more specifically the merchants. Chassidut explains at length what this implies for the service of Hashem and for the soul of man. Thus, a noxious atmosphere is much more harmful than one that is coarse (...).

The means to purify the atmosphere is the incense offering, which removes, in particular, the bad odor (...). One can consider as such all the Mitzvot that one puts concretely into practice, which concern specifically the merchants. The words of Torah that one pronounces also enter this category, being considered both as study and as practical action (...).

Perhaps it is possible to suggest that the purification of the atmosphere is the means to prepare the complete redemption. Thus, it is said that the exiles will be gathered by the merit of the Mishnah. All this remains, nevertheless, of limited scope, which will not be the case for the generation of Mashiach and the World to Come. Moreover, the words of Torah are defined as horses, as it is said "the horse that was ridden by the King."

By preparing these horses, we will soon witness the fulfillment of the promise that "My Beloved resembles the deer or the fawn of the hinds." We will be meritorious and the redemption will be revealed as soon as possible.

במענה על מכתביו למחנה ישראל וע"ד הספר תורה לקבלת פני משיח, בצירוף רשימות המשתתפים בחברת משניות בע"פ והס"ת:

א) הכוונה ביסוד חברת משניות בע"פ לא היתה שרק בני הישיבות ילמדו משניות בע"פ, אלא שתקיף את כל בית ישראל, ולנהל תעמולה שכל הראוי ישתתף בחברה זו ע"י שילמד בע"פ את חלקו שהוא כשלשה חמשה פרקים בשנה, (כמשנה בשבוע) ויחזר על מה שיודע כבר בלכתו בחוץ ובעמדו בחנות, בשבתו ברכבת ובכל הזדמנות אחרת, כדי לטהר את האויר, ובודאי כבר הגיעם קובץ מכתבי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א השני ויעיי"ש שיחתו בזה.

בטוחים אנו שבאם יסדרו את תעמולתם עפ"י הנ"ל, ימצאו אנשים למאות גם מבעלי עסק (אשר הם העיקר בעבודה בחוץ אמצאך בחוץ, גם ידוע ממעלות הבעלי עסק המבוארות בדא"ח, ומקצת המקומות נסמנו בביאור לד"ה מים רבים בלקו"ת לג"פ) אשר ישתתפו בחברה - וזאת להעיר אשר נחלט שהסיום יהי' משותף לכל החברים והוא ביום א"ח השבועות תשג"ה אי"ה.

ב) אמנם הצדק אתו כי כדי להרחיב את עבודת "מחנה ישראל" בארצנו הקדושה הי' נחוץ ודרש מי שיסע אל כל המושבות וכו', אבל לדאבוננו איננו רואים עדיין לאפשר לקבל עלינו הוצאות כאלו, ובודאי, בחפוש הראוי, יוכלו למצוא בכל עיר ומושבה אנשים מתושבי המקום גופא שיתעסקו בכל עניני מחנה ישראל שלעמלק"פ והם הם יהיו ב"כ המחנה על אתר.

ג) הקבלות מחברת תהלים העולמית קבלנו, אבל א"א לתתם להמנדבים, כיון שנזכר שם גם שם הכולל, ובודאי ידוע לכת"ר אשר פה צ"ל זהירות יתרה בכל דררא דממונא שלא יהי' מקום ללזות שפתים כלל וכלל, ולכן בבקשה רבה, להדפיס קבלות מחת"ה ביחוד ולשלחם לנו בהקדם.

ד) מוסג"פ רשימת חברים בחת"ה, ומהראוי שיעשו מעין סרטיפיקאט - על נייר דק - לכל אחת מחברות תהלים הרשומה פה וישלחום לנו אחרי שיחתמו עליו כמובן ואנחנו נמסרם פה לבעליהם.

ה) כל היו"ל בהנוגע לעניני המחנה ומרכז לעניני חנוך נשלח מהכא להתם מזמן לזמן ובודאי מגיע במועדו.

ולסיים בדבר של תורה ומענין הנ"ל, לכאורה יש להביא ראי' נוספת לשייכות טהרת האויר לבעלי עסק דוקא, דהנה ענין האויר בעבודה ובנפש האדם נתבאר בכ"ד בדא"ח, ומהם תו"א בי' ד"ה נ"ח מצוה להניחה שהוא ענין האותיות - דומם - לגבי השכל ומצות לגבי תורה, ומובן אשר אויר רע (שהוא גרוע הרבה גם מאויר עב המובא בלקו"ת ד"ה ע"כ יאמרו המושלים פ"ג, ועייג"כ סד"ה הסכת ושמע ישראל, תרצ"ג וכנראה שם לא נחית לחלק בין עב ורע, בענין אויר רע להעיר מנזיר נד, ב אויר ארץ העמים, סנהד' קט, א אויר מגדל) היינו אותיות דומם, מעשה דלעו"ז - וצריך לטהר את האויר ע"י קטרת - שהיא להעביר ריח רע כמ"ש בד"ה שעיר עזים תרס"ד (עיין מו"נ ח"ג פמ"ח בטעם מצות הקטרת שהיא להעביר ריח רע ובזח"ב רי"ט ע"א וע"ב דקטרת היא להעביר זוהמא וצע"ק דבזהר ובד"ה שעיר עזים קאי בקטרת שקודם התפלה, ויעוין שער הכולל פ"ג סי"ב, אבל בתו"א ואור התורה דלקמן קאי ג"כ אקטרת שאחרי התמיד) דהיינו מצות מעשיות בכלל כמבואר בדרושי חנוכה ד"ה כ"ה בכסלו ונסמן באוה"ת - שזהו מדרי' בעלי עסק - ובפרט י"ל שהוא דבור אותיות שבתורה שבזה יש שני המעלות דתורה וגם דמצות, משא"כ מצות מצ"ע צריכים שמירה וכמ"ש בלק"ת סד"ה וזאת המצוה ובד"ה אחרי ה"א וביאורו, ושם סד"ה למען תירא שמור זה משנה כו' ובחי' זו בתורה הוא הבל הדבור שמדבר המשנה כו'. והבלא מפיק הבלא.

ובדא"פ אולי י"ל דטהרת האויר הוא רק ענין של הכנה לגאולה השלימה (וידוע ג"כ אשר קבוץ גליות שאין מתכנשות אלא בזכות המשניות עדיין יש להם מספר אבל יהי' דורו של משיח ועוה"ב שאין להם מספר) נת' בארוכה בד"ה ואלה שמות לאדהא"מ, ויובן גם בהנ"ל דהנה אותיות דתורה נק' סוסים, וסוס אשר רכב עליו המלך ומ"ת הדר קבלוה בימי אחשורש (שבת פח, ב) כך ע"י הכנת הסוסים נזכה ב"ב ליעוד ודמה לך לצבי או לעופר האילים אחשורש זכו אחישנה וכמשנ"ת בהוספות לתו"א.
