I am responding to your letter from the eve of Shabbos*, in which you tell me that you teach a class of children, in Detroit. From time to time, you are offered and asked to move to New York, where Jewish practice is easier. You ask me what I think about it. In my view, it is surprising that you are in doubt in this matter. Teaching Jewish children based on sacred values is a divine mission. Nothing is more important, especially in our era, in this orphaned generation. Whoever has the merit of assuming such a mission is therefore fortunate. Moreover, he must redouble his ardor in this regard and persuade others to follow his example. How much more is this the case in provincial cities, where it is truly a mitzvah* that no one else can put into practice. Precisely because Jewish practice is easier in New York, the merit of each one who holds such functions is all the greater. Of every Jew, it is said: "You are children to Hashem* your Elokim*" and, by educating these children, it is certain that one will receive from Hashem* increased success toward one's own children, from whom you will derive true satisfaction, a traditional Jewish satisfaction.

You know the action of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, leader of Israel, whose merit protects us, by which he chose a few young men from among his best students and sent them precisely to provincial cities. Over the years, one has already observed the fruits and the fruits of the fruits of such a manner of acting. Moreover, there is obviously in this a teaching, a lesson for each of us. I hope that these few lines will suffice to clarify this question. In any case, this is only self-evident and the purpose of the present letter is solely to arouse your enthusiasm for the mission entrusted to you. במענה למכתבו מעש"ק ובו כותב אשר מלמד הוא לכתת ילדים בדעטראיט, וזה מזמן שדורשים ומדברים עמו שיעתיק מושבו לנויארק אשר שם בנקל יותר כל עניני יהדות וכו' ושואל דעתי בזה.

ולדעתי תמוה אפילו נתינת מקום לספק בזה, שהרי חינוך בני ישראל על טהרת הקדש, מלאכת ה' היא, ואין לך דבר גדול יותר מזה ובפרט בתקופתנו דור יתום, ואשרי חלקו של כאו"א שזכה לעשות בזה, ואדרבה צריך להוסיף חילים ולהשפיע גם על אחרים שהם יעשו ככה כמוהו, ופשיטא בערי השדה, אשר שם הוא בגדר מצוה שאי אפשר לעשותה ע"י אחרים, ודוקא מטעם האמור (הלא בנויארק כל עניני יהדות בקל יותר), אשר זכותו של כל אחד מהמתעסקים בזה גדול פי כמה, והרי הבטיחו רז"ל שמדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה אלא שכמה פעמים ככה, וזה העוסק בחינוך ילדי בני ישראל שכל אחד מהם עליו נאמר בנים אתם לה' אלקיכם, בודאי שישלם לו השי"ת פי כמה בהצלחת בניו ובנותיו שי' הוא להיות לו מהם רוב נחת אמיתי הוא נחת יהודי מסורתי.

והרי ידועה הנהגת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל, אשר בחר בכמה בחורים ואברכים מבחירי תלמידיו ושלחם דוקא לערי השדה, ובמשך השנים שעברו, הרי כבר ראו פירות ופירי פירות, והרי זה גם הוראה ולימוד בשביל כל אחד מאתנו כמובן.

תקותי ששורותי אלה אף כי מעט בכמות תספיקנה להאיר הענין אף שבלא"ה מובן הוא, ולא באתי אלא להוסיף התלהבות במילוי תפקידו האמור ויהי רצון שיעשה זה מתוך הרחבת הדעת אמיתית ובריאות הנכונה.
