To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yona (note 1: Rav Y. Eidelkopf, of Kfar Chabad*. See, on his subject, Letter no. 5566),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter from the eve of the luminous day of Lag BaOmer*. I read therein, with pleasure, that you met several people who exercise their influence on many Jews. Of course, the good impression that they had must ultimately, as one knows, receive a concrete impact, which will multiply its effect among the people on whom this influence is exercised. From this point of view, every intervention and every effort are justified, for they do not apply solely to one individual but to a group, although it is said that "whoever saves a single Jewish soul is as if he preserved the entire world." Moreover, you allude, in your last letter, to someone who fulfills his functions in the domain of education, that is, among young people who, when the time comes, will build their homes in the spirit of the Tradition of Israel, on the basis of the Torah* and the mitzvos*.

The Holy One, blessed be He, acts "measure for measure" (note 2: According to the manner in which one acts toward Him), but in a greatly increased proportion. May Hashem* therefore grant you the fruits of your actions, previously cited, which are consumed in this world, in the form of true satisfaction from all your children, for long days and good years. With my blessing to convey good news,

במענה למכתבו מערב יום הבהיר ל"ג בעומר.

נעם לי לקרות בו ע"ד פגישתו עם כמה מאלה אשר יש להם השפעה על כו"כ מבני ישראל, שמזה מובן אשר כל רושם טוב שעושה עליהם, ובפרט ע"פ הידוע אשר סו"ס הרושם מתבטא באיזה אופן שיהי' גם בהנוגע למעשה, הרי במדה זו נכפל הרושם כ"פ ככה, כיון שנוגע להמושפעים של הנ"ל. ומזה מובן שכל השתדלות ואפילו יגיעה כדאית הן, כיון שאין זה בשביל הפרט (שאפילו עליו נאמר כל המקיים נפש אחת מישראל ה"ז קיים עולם מלא) אלא בשביל הרבים, וביחוד בזה אודותו כותב במכתבו האחרון הנה זה נוגע בשטח החינוך, ז.א. באנשים צעירים אשר כעבור איזה זמן יבנו ביתם, שצ"ל בית בישראל סבא מיוסד על יסודי התורה והמצוה.

ובמדתו של הקב"ה שהיא מדה כנגד מדה אלא שכ"פ ככה הנה יהי רצון שפירות פעולותיו האמורות שאדם אוכלם בעולם הזה ישלם לו השי"ת ברוב נחת אמיתי מכל יו"ח שי' לאורך ימים ושנים טובות.
