By the grace of Hashem*,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, of many accomplishments, Rav Yochanan (note 1: Rav Y. Gordon, of Brooklyn. See, on his subject, Letter no. 4293), Shochet* and head of the Lubavitch study house, in Lubavitch,

Shalom* u'vracha*,

You have informed me of your birthday (note 2: It was his sixty-fourth birthday and he was therefore beginning the reading of Psalm 65) and here is my response. May Hashem* grant that, for many more years, good years filled with content of Torah* and mitzvos*, you inform me, each year, of your birthday. You will tell me that you know the elevation in the domain of holiness, from one stage to another, in conformity with the injunction of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life. Every Jew receives the injunction to do so and, without a doubt, all possess the necessary strength to achieve it.

Moreover, you have had the merit of having been appointed by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, leader of Israel, to a prestigious function within the Lubavitch study house, in Lubavitch and, as the Psalm that you are preparing to read every day says, "You will choose and You will bring near Your Sanctuary." This is, moreover, the period of the Omer* and, as Chassidus* explains, the count, as it is established day by day, does not disregard the earlier days, Hashem* forbid. On the contrary, it adds them up (note 3: See, on this subject, Letter no. 6229), so that this count is not a mere declaration, but effectively presents days that are "luminous and brilliant," according to the expression of the Zohar*, volume 2, at page 136b. All of this is explained at length in the Siddur* (note 4: Of the Alter Rebbe*, with the commentaries of Chassidus*), in the Chassidic* discourse entitled: "The Heavens Recount."

May each of us, within all of Israel, have the merit and the success of adding up days that are "luminous and brilliant, through the sparks emanating from the celestial point," to use the expression of the Zohar*, at the same reference. You will illuminate ever more, through "the candle that is a mitzvah* and the Torah* that is a light," as well as through the luminary of the Torah*, Chassidus* and what pertains to it. With my blessing to convey good news for long days and good years, in every sense of the term,

הנה יהי רצון שעוד רבות בשנים, שנים טובות מלאות תוכן של תורה ומצות, יודיע מדי שנה ע"ד יום ההולדת, ומתאים לציווי תוה"ק תורת חיים, אשר מעלה בקדש והולך מחיל אל חיל בהאמור.

וכיון שכל אחד מישראל נצטוה על זה, בודאי שלכל אחד נתנו הכחות למילוי הציווי.

ובפרט אשר זכה ונתמנה ע"י כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נשיא ישראל בכגון סגנון המזמור תהלים אותו מתחיל לאמר בכל יום, תבחר ותקרב גו' היכלך, לכהן פאר בבית המדרש ליובאוויטש דליובאוויטש.

ובעת ימי הספירה אשר כמבואר בדא"ח סופרים יום אחר יום באופן שאין הימים הראשונים נופלים ח"ו אלא מצטרפים לאחרים להיות נספרים לא סיפור דברים (לחוד) אלא שנהרין ונצצין (זהר ח"ב קלו, ב) ומובן הענין ממ"ש הסידור ד"ה השמים מספרים בארוכה.

הנה כאו"א מאתנו יזכה ויצליח בתכ"י שיהיו ימיו מצטרפים נהרין ונצצין בנצוצין דנקודה עליונה כלשון הזהר שם הולך ואור על ידי נר מצוה תורה אור ומאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות ועניני'.

בברכה לבשו"ט ולאורך ימים ושנים טובות בכל הפי'.
