Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6262 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 17 · Letter 117 · To: distingué ‘Hassid qui craint D.ieu

By the grace of Hashem*,

21 Iyar* 5718,

Brooklyn,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, Rav Moshe, who is called Doctor Taub (note 1: Of Rehovot. See, on his subject, Letter no. 5796),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter whose delivery was prolonged, more than usual. At a propitious moment, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, in particular that you may settle properly, as our Torah*, Torah* of life, commands us, with joy and enthusiasm. If everyone needs it to be so, how much more so is this the case for a physician, charged with healing those who turn to him. Now, the physical condition, in the most literal sense, depends on the state of mind and its strengthening. It follows that a physician must be "moist enough to moisten others" (note 2: He must be able to strengthen the morale of his patients).

Everyone is obligated to be joyful, to strengthen their trust in Hashem*. Everyone therefore receives the means and the possibilities for this. Moreover, concrete practice demonstrates that it is indeed so. For, "there is no truth but the Torah*" and it is inconceivable that the Torah* command a person what he cannot accomplish. To someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to say more. We are in the days that separate Pesach*, time of our freedom, deliverance from all that obstructs and oppresses, from Shavuos*, time of the giving of our Torah*, "engraved upon the Tablets," and our Sages* say: "Do not read charut (engraved) but cheirus (freedom)." May Hashem* grant that you give me good news of what concerns you personally,
