To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Mordechai HaKohen (note 1: Rav M. Perlov, of Milan. See, on his subject, Letter no. 4390),

I have duly received your letter from the day of Pesach Sheini*, with the request for a blessing that it contained.

You make reference to the translation (note 2: Presumably into Italian) of a Chassidic* discourse. In my opinion, the one you cite is too difficult, even if several articles in the journal of the community of Milan are written in the same manner. For, it is clear that a profound study, especially when it deals with a new concept, must be presented in a simple way, to the greatest extent possible. But, perhaps the difficult character of the formulation stems from the fact that the translator himself is familiar with these notions. If that is the case, it will not be easy to change. On the other hand, it is also possible that, according to this translator, an intellectual analysis must necessarily have a complicated formulation. If so, one must explain to him that, on the contrary, a simple presentation enables one to expound complex ideas, especially when it is a matter of spreading the wellsprings (note 3: Of Chassidus*) outward. ומ"ש אודות העתקת המאמר, לדעתי סגנון המאמר קשה הוא, אף שכמה מאמרים שבעתון קהלת מילאן נכתבים בסגנון זה, הנה מובן שדבר עיוני ובפרט בענין חדש, עכ"פ הסגנון צריך להיות קל ככל האפשרי. אפשר שקושי הסגנון הוא מפני ההרגל של המעתיק, ואזי קשה לשנותו, אבל אפשר שאדרבה שפשטות הסגנון יכול למסור גם ענינים עמוקים ובפרט כשהכוונה היא להפיץ המעינות גם חוצה, וק"ל.
