After a long interruption, I have received your letter from the day of Pesach Sheini*, in which you ask me how to guide someone on the path of Chassidus*. Of course, everything depends on the character traits of the person who needs to be oriented. It is, of course, necessary to transmit Chassidus* to every Jew. However, personalities differ and one must therefore act according to the character of each individual. You will consult, on this subject, the introduction of the Tanya*.

The general idea in this matter is the following. A person must be guided according to the manner to which he has always been accustomed. Thus, if he is an adherent of Mussar*, one must first acquaint him with Iggeres HaTeshuvah*, of the Alter Rebbe*, or with the Kuntres U'Maayan* (note 2: Of the Rebbe Rashab*, father of the Frierdiker Rebbe*). If he is versed in philosophical inquiry, you will transmit to him, for example, concepts from Shaar HaYichud VeHaEmunah*. In general, the Derech Mitzvosecha* is relatively simple to understand and it addresses different groups of people. Obviously, those who have no knowledge of the Torah* and what pertains to it must first study the talks and the Likkutei Dibburim* (note 3: Of the Frierdiker Rebbe*).

I am surprised that you do not specify to me how your day is currently organized. You surely have a fixed time for studying the revealed part of the Torah* and Chassidus*. No doubt you will specify all of this to me at the next opportunity. At a propitious moment, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, so that you may obtain the satisfaction of your needs. לאחרי הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מפסח שני, בו שואל באיזה אופן צריך להדריך אדם בדרך החסידות.

מובן שתלוי בתכונת נפש של זה שצריך להדריכו, כי אף שפשוט שכל אדם מישראל צריך להכירו בעניני תורת החסידות, אבל אין דיעות בנ"א שוות, ולכן צריך לילך לפי רוחו של כל אחד, ועיין ג"כ הקדמת ספר התניא. והנקודה הכללית, שהדרכה צריכה להתחיל באותו האופן בו הורגל אדם זה, ז.א. שבאם הוא מבעלי מוסר, אזי יש להתחיל להכירו באגרת התשובה לרבנו הזקן בקונטרס ומעין וכיו"ב, ובאם הוא מבעלי השכלה, אזי יש למצוא ענינים לפניו בשער היחוד והאמונה וכיו"ב, ובכלל הנה הספר דרך מצותיך קל לפ"ע ההבנה, ונמצא שם מכמה סוגים. מובן שלאלו שאין להם שום ידיעה כלל בתורה ועניני', התחלת הדרכה צ"ל ע"פ השיחות והלקוטי דבורים.

לפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר מסדר היום שלו עתה, שבודאי יש לו קביעות עתים בתורת הנגלה והחסידות, ובטח ימלא בהזדמנות הבאה.
