To the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, Rav Chaim Baruch (note 1: Rav Ch. B. Duchman, of Tel Aviv. See, on his subject, Letter no. 5973),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have duly received your letter of 23 Nissan* and the one that preceded it, with the request for a blessing that will be read, at a propitious moment, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. You tell me, in your letter, that you wrote me some points and I am therefore surprised that you conclude by adding that you did not send the letter here. No doubt you will do so now. Similarly, in the future, you will tell me what is happening with the Chassidim*, in general, and especially with the former students of the Yeshivah* who are there (note 2: In the Soviet Union, which Rav Duchman had recently left, a few months prior), in recent years. The more you detail, the better it will be, all the more so since one can hope, when the time comes, to truly need this information (note 3: In particular for the rescue operations conducted in that country).

May Hashem* grant that you and your wife settle in the best manner, in accordance with the genuine good defined by our Sages*, that which is "good for heaven and good for the creatures," which means that you will be able to spread light and warmth in your surroundings, influence others, bring them closer to the Torah* and its mitzvos* illuminated by Chassidus*. You did this in poverty (note 4: In Soviet Russia), and how much more must it be so now. May Hashem* grant that there be fulfilled in you and in all the Chassidim* the promise according to which "one who fulfills the Torah* in poverty will, in the end, fulfill it in wealth." With my blessing for good health and to convey good news of all this,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מכ"ג ניסן והקודמו עם הפ"נ שיקרא בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

ולפלא שלאחרי שמזכיר במכתבו שכתב כמה ענינים, הנה מסיים שלא שלח לכאן המכתב. ובודאי ישלחו עכ"פ עתה, וכן בהנוגע להבא - יודיע כל מה שמתרחש עם אנ"ש בכלל והתמימים בפרט שם במשך השנים האחרונות. וכל המפרט ה"ז משובח. ובפרט שאפשר לקוות במשך הזמן גם לתועלת כפשוטה מידיעות אלו.

ויהי רצון שהוא וזוגתו - שי' - יסתדרו באופן הכי טוב לפניהם, וכהודעת רז"ל באמיתת הטוב שהוא טוב לשמים וטוב לבריות ז.א. שיוכל להפיץ אור וחום בסביבתו ולהשפיע על הזולת לקרבם לתורה ומצותי' מוארים תורת החסידות, ובמכש"כ וק"ו מפעולותיו בזה מתוך עוני. ויהי רצון שבקרוב ממש יקוים בו ובכל אנ"ש - המקיים את התורה מעוני סופו לקיימה מעושר.
