Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6220 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem*,

4 Iyar* 5718,

Brooklyn,

Shalom* u'vracha* (note 1: This letter was addressed to several communal leaders among the Chassidim*),

You inform me of your sacred activities and of their profound point, which is the spreading of the wellsprings (note 2: Of Chassidus*) to the outside, through which "the master will come" (note 3: The Mashiach*, in accordance with the promise he himself made to the Baal Shem Tov*). May Hashem* grant that, from time to time, these activities develop and that they know increased success. You will give me good news of this, of a visible and tangible good, with genuine breadth of mind.

We have entered the "month of radiance" (note 4: Iyar*), each day of which has a specific mitzvah*, that of the counting (note 5: Of the Omer*). And, a commandment is presented by the verse: "For, the candle is a mitzvah*," so that it illuminates the darkness of the world. The light of the Torah* and the mitzvos* will therefore illuminate this darkness, in order to reveal therein the true and complete redemption, very soon, until "the night shines like the day." וכיון שנכנסנו לחדש זיו, שכל יום ויום מצוה מיוחדת בו, מצות הספירה, וענין המצות ה"ה כלשון הכתוב כי נר מצוה, להאיר חשך העולם, הנה יגביר האור דתורה ומצות על חשכת העולם, להביא הגאולה האמיתית והשלימה בעגלא דידן עד כי לילה כיום יאיר.
