Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6209 — Youth
Volume 17 · Letter 64 · To: jeune Avraham Morde’haï(1)
By the grace of Hashem*,
1 Iyar* 5718,
Brooklyn,
To the young Avraham Mordechai (note 1: A. M. Sufrin, of Jerusalem, son of the Rabbi of Komarno. See the preceding letter),
Shalom* u'vracha*,
I have learned with pleasure that you have begun to put on Tefillin*.
May Hashem* grant that this be at a good and fruitful moment, that you accomplish everything that must be accomplished in this matter, first in the simplest sense, as explained by the Shulchan Aruch*, cited by the holy Tanya*, in chapter 41, which specifies: "especially for the Tefillin*." You will consult this text. And, you know that "the entire Torah* was compared to the Tefillin*," so that the action of the Tefillin* will enable that of the entire Torah*. After a preparation of two months (note 2: Preceding the Bar Mitzvah*, during which one wears Tefillin*), you will fully accept the yoke of the Torah* and the mitzvos*, on the day of your Bar Mitzvah*. With my blessing,
