Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter of 29 Nissan* and to the one that preceded it. You inform me of your efforts to elevate yourself in Torah* and mitzvos*, to oppose the evil force of Amalek*, that of coldness and doubt. And, you request my counsel on this matter. The answer to your question is found in the books of Chassidus*. The essential idea in this matter is to ignore the advances of the evil inclination, which devises a stratagem to arouse coldness and sow doubt. The solution and the answer must be that you do not have time to engage in dialogue with it. You must study, fulfill such and such a mitzvah*, convince your friends and those close to you to do the same. Each one of us is the servant of the Master of the world. Now, a servant is not autonomous. He cannot waste his time discussing with whomever he pleases, for his Master has entrusted him with missions that he must carry out.

To strengthen the aid of Hashem*, you will set aside, every weekday, before the morning prayer, several coins for tzedakah*. After the prayer, every day, including Shabbos* and the festivals, you will read Tehillim* according to their monthly division. And, you will seek the good, spiritual and material, of your fellow. May Hashem* grant you the success of conveying good news of all this. With my blessing,

במענה למכתבו מכ"ט ניסן והקודמו, בו כותב מהשתדלות שלו בעלי' בעניני תורה ומצות וההתנגדות מעניני קליפת עמלק, ז.א. קרירות וספיקות, ושואל העצה לזה.

והרי מלתו אמורה בספרי חסידות בכלל בכמה מקומות והנקודה העיקרית בזה, לא לשום לב כלל לפיתויי היצר, וכשבא בתחבולה המביאה לקרירות להטיל ספק, שהרי העצה והמענה צריכה להיות, שאין לו זמן פנוי להתעסק בטענות ומענות, כיון שצריך הוא ללמוד, צריך לקיים מצוה פלונית להשפיע על חבריו וידידיו שגם הם יעשו את זה, והרי כל אחד מאתנו עבד הוא לאדון העולם, ואין העבד עומד ברשות עצמו לבזבז זמנו בדברו עם מי שהוא, כיון שהאדון העמיס עליו למלאות שליחות זו וזו.

ובכדי להגדיל הסייעתא דשמיא, הנה בכל יום חול קודם תפלת הבקר יפריש איזה פרוטות לצדקה ואחר התפלה בכל יום גם בש"ק ויום טוב, יאמר השיעור תהלים חדשי - כמו שנחלק התהלים לימי החדש, ולהשתדל בטובת הזולת ברוחניות ובגשמיות, והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל האמור.
