Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have duly received your letter, whose delivery, before reaching me, was delayed far beyond the usual. You speak to me about your studies until now, about your encounter with Chabad* people, who introduced you to the teachings of Chassidus* and what pertains to it (note 1: See, on this subject, the following letter). Our Sages* say: "Great is the study that leads to action." I therefore have good hope that this knowledge has brought you at least some understanding of the teaching of Chabad* and that concrete action will result from it, that you will redouble your ardor and enthusiasm in the study of our holy Torah*, its revealed part and Chassidus*, that you will fulfill the mitzvos* in the best manner and adopt good behaviors (note 2: Additional ones). Furthermore, you will influence your friends to do the same. Nothing can withstand the will, especially for a young man of your age, who does not yet have the worry of ensuring his material subsistence, who can therefore devote all his time and ardor to the study of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life. May Hashem* grant that you convey good news of this to me. With my blessing for a study of the Torah* permeated with fear of Hashem*, to fulfill the mitzvos* in the best manner, and to convey good news of what has just been said,

P.S.: You speak to me about your older brother, a few years your senior, who is not very observant. You do not know how to convince him (note 3: To practice the mitzvos*). One can concretely verify that the most effective approach is to set a personal example of the behavior of a Jew. I mean to say that if you are more scrupulous in your daily behavior, adapting it to the teachings of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life, this will indeed be the most effective campaign that can be conducted toward your brother. Furthermore, his friends and acquaintances, of the same age as him or older, will also influence him in this matter.

You make reference to your plan for settling down after finishing school. As you write, this will be in two years. There is therefore no reason to tire yourself meditating on all of this, especially since in our era, during this span of time, important and fundamental elements can change.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו - שנתאחר בדרכו בהרבה יותר מהרגיל עד שהגיע לידי - בו כותב ע"ד לימודו עד עתה ואיך שנפגש עם אנשים מחוג חב"ד, והם הכירוהו את תורתה ועניני'.

וכיון שאמרו חז"ל גדול תלמוד שמביא לידי מעשה, תקותי חזקה שהיכירות האמורה, שבודאי פירושה שלמד עכ"פ קצת בהנוגע לתורת חב"ד, מביאה לידי מעשה, ז.

א. הוספה בהתמדה ושקידה בלימוד תורתנו הק' הנגלה והחסידות והידור בקיום המצות הטבת המדות וכו' ולהשפיע גם על החברים שי' בזה. ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ובפרט אברך בגילו שעדיין אין עליו טרדות פרנסה, ויכול להקדיש כל זמנו ומרצו ללימוד תורתנו הק' תורת חיים, ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בהאמור.

במ"ש אודות אחיו הגדול ממנו בשנים, שאינו דתי כ"כ ואינו יודע איך להשפיע עליו.

רואים במוחש שתעמולה היותר טובה היא על ידי שמראים בעצמו דוגמא חי', איך צריכה להיות הנהגת איש הישראלי, כוונתי שבאם הוא יהי' זהיר בהנהגתו היום יומית שתהי' מתאמת להוראת תורתנו הק' תורת חיים, הרי זוהי תעמולה הכי יעילה גם בהנוגע לאחיו שי', ונוסף על זה צריכים שאלו ידידיו ומכיריו שהם בגילו של אחיו או יותר מבוגרים ממנו ישפיעו עליו בכיוון האמור.

מ"ש אודות תכנית הסתדרותו לאחרי שיגמור ללמוד בביה"ס, הרי כיון שכפי כתבו יהי' זה בעוד שנתים, אין כדאי להטריד את עצמו במחשבות בשטח זה, ובפרט שבתקופתנו זו במשך שנתים ימים משתנים ענינים חשובים ועיקרים.
