To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, Rav Shlomo Yehudah (note 1: Rav Sh. Y. Friedman, of Montreal),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have received your greetings and your request for a blessing through the intermediary of the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Menachem Zeev HaLevi Gringlass (note 2: Spiritual guide of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch of Montreal). At a propitious moment, I will mention your name at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. He (note 3: Rav Gringlass) wrote to me that when you attended the Purim* farbrengen* (note 4: In the presence of the Rebbe*), you remained at the end of the table. This is a great pity. Certainly, in the spiritual domain, space does not separate. Despite this, face-to-face contact presents various advantages, including with regard to moral proximity.

I heard from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, a saying of the Baal Shem Tov* according to which "when one has met once, one will surely meet again a second time." I hope that all of this will be repaired on that second occasion. You surely know the three well-known daily studies of Chumash*, Tehillim*, and Tanya*. You no doubt maintain them, in addition to your other studies of the revealed part of the Torah* and of Chassidus*. It would be good for you to know by heart several chapters of Mishnah* and at least one of Tanya*. With my blessing to convey good news, for long days and good years, as well as to derive Jewish and Chassidic* satisfaction from all your children,

קבלתי פ"ש ממנו ופ"נ ע"י הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מוה' מנחם זאב שי' הלוי גרינגלאס,

ובעת רצון יזכירוהו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

וחבל - כפי שכותב לי הנ"ל - שהי' נוכח בהתועדות דיום הפורים, אבל עמד בקצה השולחן וכו', ואף שבענינים רוחנים אין המקום מפסיק, בכ"ז הרי הראי' כפשוטה פא"פ כמה ענינים בזה, וגם בהנוגע לקירוב ברוחניות.

שמעתי מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר פתגם בשם הבעש"ט, שכשנפגשים פעם אחת בטח יפגשו גם שנית, ותקותי שבפעם ההיא יתוקן גם האמור.

בטח יודע ושומר שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים נוסף על שאר השיעורי תורה בנגלה וחסידות, ומהנכון שיהי' בקי בעל פה באיזה פרקים משניות ולכל הפחות פרק אחד תניא.

בברכה לבשו"ט ולאורך ימים ושנים טובות ולנחת יהודי חסידותי מכל יו"ח שיחיו.
