I am responding to your letter of 13 Nissan*, with the request for a blessing it contained, which will be read, at a propitious moment, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. You tell me that your son is considering coming here to continue his studies at the Yeshivah*. I have already written to several Chassidim* (note 1: See, Letters no. 5105 and 6153) on this subject, to inform them that such thoughts are merely stratagems of the evil inclination, designed to sow confusion and to prevent one from settling in the appropriate manner (note 2: By following the young man in his movements). Now, "the body of the earth is one" (note 3: Behavior is not changed by the place in which one finds oneself) and the evil inclination also crosses the borders of countries and regions. However, when one is in the proximity of one's parents, an additional supervision is added to that of the Yeshivah* administration. This is not the case in a foreign country. Certainly, our Sages* say: "Exile yourself to a place of Torah*," but this does not concern what is the subject of our discussion, for it is not a matter here of remedying the attitude of someone who would be too pampered. This is self-evident.

The same applies to the assertion you make, according to which: "this is my mazal* and my lot." I am very surprised that Chassidim*, in general, and former students of the Yeshivah*, in particular, can multiply such statements and even write them, when our Sages* clearly affirm that: "Israel has no mazal*." Regarding astrological influences, these therefore do not exist, this is quite clear. As for the true mazal*, the explanation of the statement according to which: "Israel has no mazal*" is given by the Zohar*, regarding the verse: "Are there trees or not?" With my blessing to convey good news of your communal activities and your personal concerns, the one depending on the other,

במענה למכתבו מי"ג ניסן עם הפ"נ מוסגר בו שיקרא בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בו כותב אודות הקס"ד שיסע בנו... שליט"א ללמוד בישיבה כאן.

וכבר כתבתי לכמה מאנ"ש בכגון דא שמחשבות כאלו אינן אלא מפיתויי היצר לבלבלם מלהתבונן באופן סידור כדבעי, כי סדנא דארעא חד הוא והיצה"ר נוסע גם מעבר לגבול מדינות וארצות, אלא שכשהם נמצאים בסמיכות מקום להורים יש השגחה נוספת על השגחת הנהלת הישיבה משא"כ בנכר, ואף שידוע דבר חז"ל הוה גולה למקום תורה, אין זה ענין לנדון דידן, כי הרי לא לשלול שאלת הפינוק באים, וק"ל.

וע"ד זה הוא גם מה שכותב, כנראה שזהו מזלי וגורלי כו', אשר לפלא גדול על אנ"ש בכלל וביחוד על התמימים להרבות דברים כאלו ולכותבם, בה בשעה שברור פירשו רבותנו את דרז"ל אין מזל לישראל בהנוגע למזל כפשוטו, אין כפשוטו, שאינו במציאות, ובהנוגע למזל האמיתי הפירוש אין מזל לישראל, וע"ד פירוש הזהר עה"כ היש בה עץ אם אין.
