To the eminent Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, who devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Shneur Zalman (note 1: Rav Sh. Z. Garelik, Rav* of Kfar Chabad*. See, on his subject, Letters no. 4797 and 6295),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have duly received your letter of 11 Nissan*. I have also learned that you distributed Matzah Shemurah* (note 2: See, on this subject, Letter no. 6195). You will no doubt give me more details on this subject, as was done last year. Of course, here as well, you will communicate to me the list of those who received it, including, as you say, "the devoted Chassidim* who do not live here."

I thank you for your blessing (note 3: On the occasion of the Rebbe's* birthday, 11 Nissan*), emanating from the master of Kfar Chabad*, the village of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*. Whoever gives a blessing is himself blessed, as it is said: "I will bless those who bless you." You will have the merit of leading your community on the ways of Chassidus*, pleasant and peaceful ways, which are, moreover, in conformity with the will of our holy masters. One of its fundamental values is the love of one's fellow, and you know the saying that we heard many times from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, in the name of the Baal Shem Tov*, according to which one must fully experience this feeling, including for a Jew who is at the other end of the world and whom one has never seen. One can deduce from this the intensity that this love must have, on account of which we all endure this exile (note 4: To atone for its lack). This applies even more clearly to the Holy Land, "toward which the eyes of Hashem* are always turned, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year," beyond all other countries, even though "Hashem* is present... searches the innards and the heart" (note 5: In any place, according to the terms of chapter 41 of the Tanya*). With my blessing to truly convey good news of all this,

... ת"ח על ברכתו ברכת מרא דאתרא של כפר חב"ד של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר וכל המברך יתברך כמ"ש ואברכה מברכיך, יזכה לנהל עדתו בדרכי החסידות שהם דרכי נועם ושלום, וביחד עם זה מכוונים לכוונת רבותינו נשיאינו היא הכוונה העליונה שמהיסוד שלה היא אהבת ישראל וכידוע הפתגם ששמענוהו כ"פ מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בשם הבעש"ט, שצריכים להיות במילואה אפילו לאיש ישראלי הנמצא בקצה העולם שמעולם לא ראהו, וגם מזה מובן גודל האהבה, שבשביל הפכה סובלים כל הגלות, ועוד מובן ביותר בהנוגע לאה"ק ת"ו אשר עיני ה' אלקיך בה מראשית השנה עד אחרית שנה בהוספה על מה שבכל מקום גם בחו"ל ה' נצב עליו כו' ובוחן כליות ולב.
