A) I am responding to your letter from the end of the month of Shevat*, whose delivery was delayed more than usual. I read with pleasure therein that you find yourself in a Chabad* setting. It is unnecessary to emphasize to you that being in such a context implies taking an interest also in the study of its teachings and, the essential point, in the practices and customs that derive from them. Naturally, a person advances step by step and not all at once, from one extreme to the other. Nevertheless, it is indeed in this direction that one must orient oneself. And, nothing can withstand the will. I hope that you will convey good news to me of your progress in this matter, as well as of the influence you will exert, in this direction, on your friends.

B) You tell me that when working, you soil your tzitzis*. You must, despite everything, wear a tallis katan*. Besides, the essential and longest part of your work surely consists of ensuring that you do not get dirty. Furthermore, you will have a second tallis katan* for the prayer, Shabbos*, and the festivals.

C) Regarding the place of prayer and the manner of praying, everything depends, of course, on the conditions of the place. You will therefore take counsel from those who have acquired knowledge in this matter. May Hashem* grant that you make the right decision, in conformity with the fervor necessary for prayer and its purpose, since it is the service of Hashem* of the heart, drawing man closer to his Creator, attracting heavenly blessings in order to fully satisfy the needs of man.

You surely took advantage of the days of Purim* in the appropriate manner and you have an established program for the days of Pesach*. May Hashem* grant that you strengthen yourself in Judaism, the Torah*, and the mitzvos*, on a daily basis. And, as the Mishnah* says, "the deed is essential." With my blessing for a kosher* and joyful festival of Pesach*,

במענה למכתבם משילהי שבט, - שנתארך בדרך הילוכו יותר על הרגיל -

נעם לי לקרות בו שנמצאים הם במסגרת חב"דית, ובודאי אין צריך להדגיש שענין המציאות במסגרת זו, פירושה התענינות וגם לימוד תורתה ועוד הוא העיקר התענינות והנהגה מתאים לההוראות ומנהגי תורה זו,

אלא שבטבע האדם להתקדם צעד אחר צעד, ולא בפעם אחת מן הקצה אל הקצה, אבל הדרך וההליכה צריכה להיות בכיוון זה, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ותקותי שיבשרוני טוב מהתקדמותם בהאמור וגם על החברים שלהם משפיעים בזה.

ב) בענין ציצית אשר כשהולכים לעבודה מלכלכים את הציצית,

הנה בכל זה צריך לשאת ט"ק (מצויצת בציצית) ובפרט שבודאי עיקר עבודתם ורובה במשך היום, ולהשתדל עד כמה שאפשר שלא ללכלך, וכן שיהי' ט"ק שני זמן התפלה ולש"ק ויום טוב.

ג) בהנוגע למקום התפלה ואופנה, מובן שזהו תלוי בהתנאים על המקום, ולכן יתייעצו עם אלו היודעים בזה, ויהי רצון שיחליטו בטוב מתאים לכוונת התפלה ומטרתה שהיא עבודה שבלב המקרבת את האדם לבוראו וממשכת ברכות השי"ת במילוי צרכי האדם לטובה.

בודאי ניצלו ימי הפורים באופן המתאים ויש להם תכנית מתאימה לימי חג הפסח הבע"ל, ויהי רצון שיתחזקו ביהדות בתורה ומצותי' בחיי היום יומים וכדבר משנה המעשה הוא העיקר.

בברכה לחג הפסח כשר ושמח.
