After a particularly long interruption, I have received your letter of 2 Nissan*, the date of the Hillula* of the Rebbe Rashab*, whose merit protects us. You write to me that you have sold your business and that, for the time being, you cannot formulate concrete proposals (note 1: Concerning his professional future). To someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to explain at length that discouragement and sadness are forbidden, in general and even more clearly in this domain, as our holy Torah*, Torah* of life, and especially the books of Chassidus* explain. Moreover, it is, on the contrary, by strengthening one's trust that one redoubles one's ardor to find a new, positive, and broader way to earn one's living, in a visible and tangible good.

I read with pleasure, in your letter, that you bring your help and your assistance to the holy institutions and domains of activity of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. You will surely continue to do so in the future and you will even increase your involvement. However, as I heard a number of times from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, when one acts on behalf of these institutions and accomplishments, it is indispensable to receive a salary. Certainly, the profound and essential dimension of such activity, that to which one must devote oneself with vitality, cannot be evaluated in financial terms. Nevertheless, the time one devotes to it and, even more, the necessity of knowing peace of mind, so that nothing obstructs this activity, make it necessary to pay the appropriate salary. And, you know, on this subject, the stories (note 2: See, on this subject, Letter no. 3659) of the Rebbe Rashab*, father of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*. In my opinion, you should now devote your time to assisting these institutions. You will define this effort and this assistance, its modalities and its duration, with the Rav*. You will also set the amount of your salary which, as I have said, is necessary for success. In any event, you will keep a little free time each day in order to maintain a commercial activity as well, which you will not abandon. Hashem* will lead you on the path that will be good for you, of a visible and tangible good.

On the occasion of the festival of Matzos*, the time of our freedom, which approaches, for us and for all Israel, for the good, I herewith send you my blessing for a kosher* and joyful festival, a genuine freedom, freedom from material worries and from moral worries, from everything that obstructs the service of Hashem*, with joy and enthusiasm. You will prolong this freedom and this joy throughout the entire year. Moreover, the service of Hashem*, as our Torah*, Torah* of life, commands, extends to everything concerning man, throughout the entire day and night, as it is said: "In all your ways, know Him" (note 3: See the two preceding letters). לאחר הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מב' ניסן, הוא יום ההילולא של כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.

בו כותב אשר מכר את העסק שלו ולע"ע אין לו הצעות ממשיות מה להציע.

ובדואי לדכוותי' למותר להאירך אשר אסורה בהחלט נפילת רוח ועצבות בכלל ובפרט מענין כהנ"ל וכמובאר בתוה"ק תורת חיים ובספרי החסידות ביחוד; ולא עוד אלא שאדרבה ע"י תוספת בחיזוק הבטחון מוסיפים מרץ בהסתדרות באופן של פרנסה חדש מורחב בטוב, בטוב הנראה והנגלה.

נעם לי לקרות במכתבו אודות הסיוע שלו והתעסקותו לטובת מוסדות הק' ועניניו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, בודאי אשר גם להבא ימשיך בזה ובתוספת.

אלא שכפי ששמעתי איזה פעמים מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, מוכרח הדבר בכזה לטובת המוסדות ועניניהם שיעשה זה בקבלת פרס, ז.א. שאף שבעסקנות זו הנקודה הפנימית והעיקרית בה (ז.א. ההתמסרות והחיות) אינה משתלמת ע"י כסף, הרי שכר הבטלה ועוד יותר בכדי שתהי' מנוחת הנפש ובמילא לא יחסר המזג בהעבודה מוכרח שישתלם בשכר המתאים, וכידוע סיפורים בזה גם מכ"ק אדמו"ר מוהרש"ב אביו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, ולדעתי הרי יקדיש מזמנו עתה לעבודת הסיוע בהמוסדות ולאחרי שיבוא בדברים עם הרב... ע"ד השתדלות וסיוע אופנה וזמנה וכן בהנוגע לתשלומין (אשר כנ"ל לדעתי זקוקה היא להצלחת העבודה), ובכ"א יהי' מקצת זמנו בכל יום פנוי בכדי להתעסק בעניני מסחר ג"כ, ומזה ומזה אל תנח ידיך, והשי"ת ינחהו בדרך הטובה לפניו בטוב הנראה והנגלה.

ולקראת חג המצות, זמן חירותנו הבא עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לחג כשר ושמח ולחירות אמיתית, חירות מדאגות בגשם ומדאגות ברוח, מכל דבר המעכב עבודת ה' בשמחה ובטוב לבב.

ולהמשיך מחירות ושמחה זו בימי כל השנה כולה.

ובפרט שעבודת השם כמצווה עלינו בתורתנו תורת חיים, הרי היא בכל עניני האדם ובמשך כל היום וכל הלילה, וכמו שנאמר בכל דרכיך דעהו.
