Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6155 — Shidduchim

Volume 17 · Letter 10

By the grace of Hashem*,

3 Nissan* 5718,

Brooklyn,

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter from this Friday, in which you write to me that, since your young age, you have been isolated. Now, you experience this solitude with difficulty. It is however clear that it depends, to a large extent, on a young man who finds himself at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, in a class composed of several young men of his own age, to maintain bonds of friendship with them. Of course, this cannot completely substitute for the parental home (note 1: Perhaps the recipient of this letter had lost his parents as a child), but it can, on the other hand, be of help, to a large and important extent, in order to get through this period of a few years, until you structure your family life (note 2: Until marriage), with the help of Hashem*.

In such a situation, one can also find help in positive actions carried out toward one's fellow. In this way, one senses, in the depths of one's soul, the bond that exists among Jews. Even if, at the beginning, this feeling is not fully expressed, it becomes effective in the end and, if this is so for all Jews, how much more is it the case for one who finds himself in a Chassidic* environment, who participates in actions carried out for the benefit of Chassidus*. May Hashem* grant you the success of intensifying your ardor and enthusiasm in our Torah*, whose "ways are pleasant ways," permeated with Chassidic* light and vitality. In this way, you will concretely sense the saying (note 3: See, on this subject, Letter no. 4950) that we heard from my father-in-law, the Rebbe*: "Through Chassidus*, one does not feel alone." At a higher level, one even senses closeness and friendship. I send you my blessing regarding all that has just been said and also for your birthday, of which you informed me. You will therefore have a year of success, in all your needs, spiritual and material. With my blessing for a kosher* and joyful festival of Pesach*,
