You write to me about a young man who wishes to travel to the United States in order to continue his schooling and to complete his secondary education here. Now, he is fourteen or fifteen years old and it is quite evident that a young boy from the Holy Land coming here to the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* will not receive such a formation. Furthermore, one knows the halachic* ruling of the Rambam* in this matter, which is cited in his Laws of Kings. There would therefore be a deviation for the students who are here and, even more clearly, for those who are in the Holy Land. Another point, which is also essential — even for those students from the Holy Land who distinguish themselves, for the good, from this young man, I have not accepted the principle of a trip here. Experience has, unfortunately, proved that this concern was well-founded, with the exception of a few cases. In any event, it is clear that this is not at all desirable at fourteen or fifteen years of age. If this young man truly desires it, he can join the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lod, that is to say, a Chabad* institution in the Holy Land. This is self-evident.

You are surely preparing the students, in the appropriate manner, for the days of Nissan* that are approaching. Similarly, you conducted activities for the days of Purim* and, more generally, of Adar*. May Hashem* grant that your effort be rewarded and that you train students, a progeny blessed by Hashem*. With my blessing to convey good news, for a kosher* and joyful festival of Pesach*,

... במ"ש אודות האברך... שי' ורצונו לנסוע לארצוה"ב להמשיך בלימודים ולסיים כאן בי"ס תיכון וכו' והוא בן י"ד ט"ו שנה מובן שאי אפשר הדבר כלל שאברך הבא מאה"ק ת"ו לישיבת תו"ת דכאן יהי' לימודו כהנ"ל - (נוסף על הפס"ד בזה כמובא שברמב"ם הלכות מלכים) ה"ז פריצת גדר הן בשביל התלמידים דכאן ועאכו"כ בשביל התלמידים דאה"ק ת"ו, ועוד וגם זה עיקר שאפילו שונים לטובה מהאברך הנ"ל לא היתה דעתי נוחה מנסיעתם לכאן, ולצערי הנסיון בזה הוכיח אמיתת החשש (מלבד אחדים ממש) ופשיטא שאין זה נכון כלל בגיל של יד-טו שנה ובאם ירצה הנ"ל באמת - יכול הוא להקלט בישיבת תו"ת בלוד וכיו"ב, ז.א. מוסד חב"ד באה"ק ת"ו, וק"ל.

בטח מכין את התלמידים באופן המתאים בקשר עם ימי ניסן הבע"ל וכן נעשה כבר בקשר ימי הפורים וחדש אדר בכלל, ויהי רצון שיראה פרי טוב בעמלו להקים תלמידים זרע ברך ה'.
