I am responding to your letter, requesting a blessing for study and fear of Hashem*. I hope that, for your part, you will put into practice the commandments of our holy Torah*, by studying it with ardor and enthusiasm. In this way, the promise of Hashem* will be fulfilled, according to which "whoever makes efforts will see them crowned with success." The more you redouble your ardor and enthusiasm, the greater the success will be, especially if you persuade your friends to do the same (note 1: The recipient of this letter is surely a Yeshivah* student). Indeed, the conduct of the Holy One, blessed be He, is "measure for measure" (note 2: In the manner in which one acts toward Him), but in greatly increased proportion, so that His reward is far greater.

You surely observe the custom of reading Tehillim*, according to their monthly division, every day after the morning prayer. Furthermore, you will give tzedakah*, from time to time, in particular at a propitious moment, that is, every weekday, before the morning prayer.

במענה למכתבם, בקשת ברכה בלימוד וביראת שמים,

תקותי שמצדם יקיימו ציווי תוה"ק ללמוד בהתמדה ושקידה, ויקיים השי"ת הבטחתו יגעת ומצאת. וככל שירבו בהתמדה ושקידה, תתרבה גם ההצלחה, ובפרט אם ישפיעו גם על חבריהם שי' שגם הם יתנהגו ככה, שמדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה אלא שכמה פעמים ככה, להשיב להם כגמולם פי כמה וכמה.

בודאי שומרים התקנה דאמירת השיעור תהלים חדשי - כפי שנחלק התהלים לימי החודש - בכל יום אחר תפלת הבקר, וכן מפרישים לצדקה מזמן לזמן, וביחוד בזמן המסוגל - בכל יום חול קודם תפילת הבקר.
