By the grace of Hashem*,

Brooklyn,
Shalom* u'vracha*,
I am responding to your letter of 25 Adar*, in which you describe the state of mind of your wife, may Hashem* grant her long life. She is sometimes sad. Now, you will surely be able to explain to her the necessity of placing her trust in the Creator of the world (note 1: See the previous letter, addressed to the wife herself), Who directs it and Who grants His Providence to each man and each woman. There is no place in which He is not. How then can one imagine that a Jew or a Jewess could be sad, when they find themselves in the immediate proximity of a great King, Who is good, with a genuine goodness? It is therefore quite clear that there is nothing to fear, that there is no reason to be worried, when one finds oneself within the four cubits of the King. You must understand this image. And, moreover, it is not merely an image at all, for it is truly so and the reality is even infinitely greater than all of this, since, according to the well-known hymn (note 2: From the Shabbos* morning prayer), "None is comparable to You."
It would be good to also study the passages of the holy Tanya* dealing with the rejection of sadness. You will no doubt be able to explain all this to her. You will also have the mezuzos* of your home checked, in order to ensure that they conform to the requirements of the Halachah*. And, your wife will observe the custom of virtuous Jewish women, which consists of setting aside tzedakah* before lighting the candles, on the eve of Shabbos* and the festivals. You yourself will give tzedakah* every weekday, before the morning prayer. You ask me whether you should change your dwelling. In general, in this matter, one should take into account the opinion of the wife, the mistress of the house. It is said that a pleasant home grants a man breadth of mind. One should therefore not be distressed if one must incur debts, up to a moderate amount, for such is the rule in the world.
You surely participate in the activities of spreading the wellsprings (note 3: Of Chassidus*) outward. And, from time to time, you increase this involvement, for we have received the commandment to know elevation in the domain of holiness. With my blessing to convey good news, for a kosher* and joyful festival of Pesach*,
