Blessings and greetings,

After a particularly long interruption, I received your letter of 8 Shevat*. You ask me how to influence him, as well as all the members of the family, so that all draw closer to the Torah* and the mitzvos*.

You know the teaching of our Torah*, Torah* of life, which states, in this regard: "Its ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths are peace." Everything that pertains to Judaism admits no compromise. Nevertheless, if one wishes to convince the other and draw him closer, one achieves a success much broader and more rapid by acting in this manner — by following the ways of pleasantness and the paths of peace. One can verify this concretely. And, this presupposes that one have sufficient patience to speak again and again, not to become angry — which Heaven forbid — if, at first, these words are not fruitful.

I am surprised that you tell me nothing of your communal concerns, of their current situation, and of what is being done to develop them.

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבה מח' שבט... ושואלת איך להשפיע עליו ועל בני המשפחה בכלל לקרבם לתורה ולמצותי',

וידועה הוראת תורתנו תורת חיים בזה, שהדרך הוא כמה שנאמר דרכי' דרכי נועם וכל נתיבותי' שלום, שאף שעניני יהדות אין מקום בהם לפשרה, אבל בכדי לפעול גם על הזולת לקרבו לזה, מצליחים במדה גדולה ובהקדם זמן יותר על ידי הדרכים האמורים דרכי נועם ונתיבות שלום, וכנראה גם במוחש, וזה מביא גם כן שיש די סבלנות לדבר פעם ועוד פעם ולא לכעוס ח"ו באם בימים הראשונים עדיין אין מצליחים בהדבור וכו'...

לפלא שאינה מזכירה דבר בהנוגע להענינים הצבורים בם היתה עוסקת, המצב בהם עתה, ומה שעושים בזה להרחבתם.
