To the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yoshua* (note 1: Rav Y. Albaum, of Jerusalem. See, on his subject, Letter no. 5619),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have received your letter of 2 Shevat*, as well as the two preceding ones. I read with pleasure therein that you observe success in the dissemination of the wellsprings* (note 2: Of Chassidus). Nevertheless, noting your silence and that of all the leaders, I greatly fear that the number of participants in the Chassidus* classes has not increased. Of course, this pains me, for, in the end, such dissemination is not only qualitative. It is also quantitative.

Furthermore, one can think that the quantitative dimension is essential, especially in this generation of the heel of Moshiach* (note 3: In which the qualitative dimension is, by nature, diminished). As the Midrash Rabbah* underscores, not a single one of the six hundred thousand souls could be absent for the Torah* to be given. And, may Hashem* grant that the one whose Hilloula* we celebrate — my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us — protect each of those who devote themselves to this activity, as well as those who participate in the classes. In this way, you will intensify your success in this sacred mission.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מב' שבט עם שנים הקודמים לו, ונעם לי לקרות בו אשר רואים הצלחה בהפצת המעינות, אבל חוששני מפני שתיקתו בנקודה זו וכן שתיקת שאר המתעסקים שמספר המשתתפים בשיעור דא"ח לא נתרבה ואולי וכו' ומובן הצער בזה, שהרי סו"ס ענין ההפצה היא לא רק האיכות כי אם גם בכמות ויש מקום לומר שאפשר שזהו העיקר ובפרט בדרא דעקבתא דמשיחא וע"ד המובא במד"ר שלמתן תורה צריך הי' להיות מספר שלם של ששים רבוא וכו' ויהי רצון שזכות בעל ההילולא הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע יגן על כאו"א מהמתעסקים בהנ"ל והמשתתפים בהשיעור ויוסיף הצלחה בעבודתם הקדושה האמורה.
