I have received your letter from this Friday, eve of Shabbos*, with the request for a blessing, which will be read, at a propitious moment, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. You ask me what is the best means of fulfilling the mitzvah* of loving one's fellow.

I am surprised that you could formulate such a question about a commandment that is clearly expressed in the Torah*. Moreover, Rabbi Akiva* emphasizes that this is a great principle of the Torah*. And, for the logical justification, you will study, with all the necessary depth, chapter 32 of the holy Tanya*, and the mitzvah* of Ahavas Yisrael* in the Sefer HaMitzvos* of the Tzemach Tzedek*. You will see there the importance of all this, described in wondrous terms.

בו שואל מה היא העצה היעוצה בכדי לקיים מצות ואהבת לרעך כמוך.

ולפלא השאלה בזה לאחרי שזהו ציווי מפורש בתורה ולא עוד אלא שאמר רבי עקיבא שכלל גדול הוא בתורה, ובכדי להוסיף גם טעמים שכלים בדבר, ילמוד בעיון הדרוש בפרק ל"ב בספר תניא קדישא ובספר טעמי המצות לאדמו"ר הצ"צ מצות אהבת ישראל, ויראה שם דברים נפלאים עד היכן הענין מגיע.
