Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6022 — Tzedakah

I am responding to your letter of 21 Teves*, in which you tell me that several of your friends have purchased a plot of land (note 1: Presumably for a burial site). You ask me whether you should do the same. If the conditions are good and if it is true that several of your friends have done so, it would be good for you to follow their example. But you will not invest in this the totality of your available funds. If your current assets do not give you the means, you will borrow a certain amount to complete the purchase, but your treasury must not remain empty, Heaven forbid.

I am surprised that you have not written to me for a long time about your communal activities and, in particular, about their central point — the dissemination of the wellsprings* (note 2: Of Chassidus) — all the more so since you have the responsibility of reciting Chassidic discourses in the synagogues. Perhaps you will provide all these details at the next opportunity.

במענה למכתבו מכ"א טבת, בו כותב אשר כמה מחבריו קנו שטחים וכו' ושואל אם גם הוא יעשה כזה.

והנה אם התנאים שוים לפ"ע ונכונה הידיעה שכמה מחבריו עשו כזה, נכון שגם הוא יעשה כזה, אבל באופן שלא ישקיע בזה כל כספו, המזומן, ובאם אין האמצעים המזומנים מספיקים להנ"ל הרי ילוה איזה סכום להשלים אבל לא ישאיר קופתו ריקם ח"ו.

לפלא שזה מזמן רב שאין כותב כלל בהנוגע לענינים הכללים וביחוד בנקודה התיכונה הפצת המעינות ובפרט שהרי על שכמו הי' הענין סידור אמירת דא"ח בבתי הכנסיות וכו' ואפשר ימלא עד"ז בהזדמנות הקרובה.
