Volume 1 · Letter 60

On the occasion of your Bar Mitzvah*, I send you my blessings that from this day on which you become an adult, you grow constantly in your studies and your conduct, so that your parents and grandparents derive much satisfaction and pleasure from you.
In the time of Mordechai, the Jews were in exile and Haman decided to kill them. What did Mordechai do? He gathered the Jewish youth and taught them Torah. It is in this way that the decree was annulled.
When the Jews were in their land, each in his possessions, Ephraim and Yehudah formed a single people on the earth and King Shlomo, son of David, was at their head. He built a dwelling for Hashem, but our Sages ordained that the study of students must not be interrupted for them to participate in the construction of the Temple!
The Torah is a tree of life for one who holds onto it. On Mount Sinai, Moshe transmitted to all Israel Laws and Precepts. By observing His Mitzvot, we will resist all our enemies in exile and, very soon, we will merit the revelation of the great day of Hashem, when the heart of the fathers will return through the children and that of the children toward their fathers. Then He will liberate us through His Moshiach, who is called Menachem and will console our souls.
Be strong and courageous in the study of Torah and the practice of Mitzvot!

לחגיגת בר מצוה שלך, הנני לשלוח לך ברכותי, אשר ביום הזה שנהיית גדול תלך הלוך וגדול בלמודיך ובהנהגותיך, והוריך וא"ז יחיו ישבעו ממך רב נחת וענג.
בימי מרדכי , כשהיו ישראל בגולה, אמר המן האגגי להשמיד כל היהודים. מה עשה מרדכי - כנס צעירי ישראל ולמד עמם תורה, ועל ידי זה בטלה הגזירה.
בהיות עם ישראל על אדמתו, ואיש תחת גפנו, אפרים ויהודה גוי אחד בארץ, ושלמה בן דוד מלכם בראשם, ויבן בית לה', ציוו חכמינו אשר לא יבטלו התלמידים מתורתם לבנין בית המקדש!
כי התורה עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה. בכח תורת משה אשר צווה בחורב [א]ל כל ישראל חקים ומשפטים, ועל ידי שמירת מצוותי', נעמוד בפני כל הקמים עלינו בגולה, ונזכה בקרוב ליום ה' הגדול אשר ישיב לב אבות על בנים ולב בנים על אבותם, ויגאלנו על ידי משיח מנחם משיב נפשנו.
חזק ואמץ בלימוד התורה ובקיום המצוות!
