To the young man Raphael Pinchas (note 1: Rav R. P. Goldstein, of Jerusalem. See, on his subject, Letters no. 4941 and 6102),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have received your letter of 20 Kislev*, the month of deliverance, briefly describing your activities during these recent weeks. Even if you do not speak of it — as is very often the case among those who devote themselves to the spreading of Yiddishkeit* and the wellsprings* (note 2: Of Chassidus) — you are surely striving to maintain contact with those you have met. Practice shows, indeed, that this contact must be renewed from time to time. In this way, not only are the positive gains maintained, but moreover they multiply and develop. This can be verified concretely, in particular in the spreading of the wellsprings*. Thus, it is known that the smallest drop coming from a spring is, by itself, considered as forty se'ah* (note 3: The quantity of water necessary to fill a mikveh), possessing, moreover, the quality of having been beyond the reach of human hands. This is self-evident.

With my blessing for success in your study of the revealed part of the Torah* and of Chassidus*, in your practice of the mitzvos* in the finest manner, and in the influence you exert upon others,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מכ' כסלו חדש הגאולה ובו ר"פ מפעולותיו במשך שבועות שעברו, ובודאי אף שאין מזכיר עד"ז וכן אין מזכירים בכגון דא כמה מהפעילים בהפצת היהדות והפצת המעינות, משתדלים לעמוד בקישור עם אלו שנפגשו גם לאחרי זה, וכנראה במוחש שבכגון דא צריך לעורר ולחדש ההתעוררות מזמן לזמן, אשר לא לבד שהתוצאות הטובות יהיו נמשכות אלא שיש להוסיף עליהן ולהגדילן, וכנראה במוחש, ובפרט בעניני הפצת המעינות, וכידוע בענין חיות המעין שכל שהוא ממנו הוא כמו מ' סאה אף שגם בהם מעלה שלא הי' בהם תפיסת יד אדם, וק"ל.
