To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, Rav Shneur Zalman* (note 1: Rav S. Z. Wilenkin, of Cleveland. See, on his subject, Letter no. 3116), shlita*,

Shalom* u'vracha*,

After a long interruption, I have received your letter, which was undated, with what it contained, for which you will find enclosed a receipt. May Hashem* grant that, for many more years, you multiply your actions for the Torah* and the mitzvos*, in particular tzedakah*, which is considered the sum of all the mitzvos* and which, moreover, brings elevation to the four-fifths (note 2: Thanks to the last fifth, which is devoted to tzedakah).

I learned, with pleasure, of the Chassidishe farbrengen* held on the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, but it is very regrettable that the number of participants at such events is not increasing. This day is, however, favorable for spreading the wellsprings* (note 3: Of Chassidus) to the outside. Even if, for the moment, there are numerically few Chassidim* in your city, what can be called "outside" is indeed to be found there. There, this spreading has not yet taken place. Now, it is a necessity. The means and the possibilities of putting it into practice have therefore necessarily been granted.

לאחרי הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - עם המוסגר בו שמצורפת בזה קבלה.

ויהי רצון שעוד רבות בשנים יוסיף בעניני תורה ומצותי', ובזה מצות הצדקה השקולה כנגד כל המצות, ולא עוד אלא שמעלה עמה את כל (הד') חלקים.

נהניתי להוודע מההתועדות דיום הבהיר י"ט כסלו, אבל חבל וחבל שאין מתרבה מספר המשתתפים בהתועדויות אלו, והרי יומא דא קגרים להפיץ המעינות חוצה, שאפילו את"ל שמספר אנ"ש במחנם הט'' לע"ע מועט - הוא רק בכמות, הרי פשיטא שחוצה ישנו שעדיין לא הפיצו בו, וכיון שמוכרח הדבר הרי בטח שינתנה האפשריות והיכולת להביא הענין לידי פועל.
