To the directors of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, in Lod, may Hashem* grant you long life,

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of 1 Teves*, presenting briefly the organization of the Chassidishe farbrengen* for the festival of the liberation of 19 Kislev*, what preceded it, and what followed it. It appears that you are beginning to attract students from other yeshivos* (note 1: See, on this subject, Letter no. 5937), in an ever-broader manner. I was particularly gratified by this. This is indeed what a "candle to illuminate" (note 2: According to the expression of the Rebbe Rashab, father of the preceding Rebbe, regarding the students of the Yeshivah Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch) must devote itself to, and all the more so an institution that trains its students to be "candles to illuminate," whose mission is to kindle these candles "at the entrance of one's home" — that is, to reveal to the outside.

Previously, opposition manifested itself in certain circles and, despite this, such an attitude was adopted. How much more must this be so when this opposition has given way to observation, to searching, to pursuing the deep dimension of the Torah* and everything related to it — even if some of those conducting this search do not themselves know what they are seeking, in accordance with the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*: "if the body hungers for a piece of bread, this means, deeply, that the soul hungers for the divine spark, for the Word of Hashem* contained in that bread."

Of course, to all of this is added the great benefit of participating in such a gathering, in the presence of many people and in such an atmosphere. This is particularly valuable. Nevertheless, the preceding point is the essential mission of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* — this is self-evident. The merit of the public will come to your aid, and it is therefore certain that you will achieve success in this, provided that you invest the necessary effort. Such is the requirement in all domains of holiness.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבם מא' טבת - ר"פ מסדרי התועדות דחג הגאולה י"ט כסלו ושלפניו ושלאחריו, ונהניתי במאד ממה שכנראה התחילו להמשיך תלמידים משאר ישיבות להתועדויות אלו, ובאופן דמוסיף והולך, שהרי זהו ענינו של כל נר להאיר, ועאכו"כ של מוסד המקים תלמידי-נר-להאיר בכוונה להדליק הנרות על פתח ביתו, שתוכנה המשכה בחוץ, ולא עוד אלא דוקא באופן דמוסיף והולך. ואם בתקופה שלפנים כשהיתה התנגדות בחוגים ידועים הי' כזה עאכו"כ שתמורת התנגדות התחילה החיפוש והחקירה ודרישה לפנימיות התורה ועניני', (אף שכמה מהמחפשים אינם יודעים עדיין שאותה הם מחפשים, וע"ד פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שכשהגוף רעב ללחם, פנימיות הענין הוא - מפני שהנשמה רעבה לניצוץ האלקי, למוצא פי ה' אשר בהלחם).

מובן שעל הנ"ל נוסף גם התועלת הכי גדולה בהשתתפות כמה בע"ב בהתוועדות באוירה כזו, שגם ערכה גדול ביותר וביותר, אבל נוסף בענין הראשון - שזהו תפקיד עקרי של ישיבת תו"ת, וק"ל, וכיון שזכות הרבים מסייעתם בודאי יצליחו גם בזה, באם רק יהי' באופן דיגעת - שהרי זוהי הדרישה בכל עניני קדושה.
