To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and assumes a sacred mission, Rav Aharon Shmuel* (note 1: Rav A. S. Singer, of Raanana),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of the fifth candle (note 2: Of Chanukah), in which you tell me that Hashem* has granted you the success of founding a Talmud Torah* in your city and that you are striving to develop it quantitatively, through the number of students, and qualitatively, through the level of studies.

May Hashem* grant that you achieve considerable success, all the more so since this accomplishment is fundamental in this period, in general, and in the Holy Land, in particular. The merit of the public will therefore come to your aid. The Holy One, blessed be He, acts "measure for measure" (note 3: In the manner in which one acts toward Him), but in a vastly greater proportion. He will therefore fulfill the wishes of your heart, and with your wife, you will educate all your children to Torah*, to the marriage canopy, and to good deeds, in true abundance.

With my blessing to convey good news,

P.S.: You mention the approach one should have toward those whose parents do not yet observe the Torah* and the mitzvos*. It is clear that one must not push them away — quite the contrary. With the proper effort, you will ultimately succeed not only in bringing the children closer to the Torah* and the mitzvos*, but also in influencing, through them, their parents and the members of their family, as practice clearly demonstrates.

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מנר החמישי, בו כותב אשר חפץ ה' בידו הצליח לסדר ת"ת במחנו הט' ואשר משתדל להגדילה, בכמות, ז.א. במספר התלמידים, וגם באיכות, רמת הלימודים.

ויהי רצון שיהי' זה בהצלחה מופלגה, ובפרט שזהו ענין חיוני בימינו אלה בכלל ובאה"ק ת"ו בפרט, וא"כ הרי זכות הרבים מסייעתו.

ובמדתו של הקב"ה שהיא מדה כנגד מדה אלא שכ"פ ככה, ימלא השי"ת משאלות לבבם לטובה שהוא וזוגתו שיחיו יגדלו את כל ילידיהם שיחיו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבה אמיתית.

במ"ש אודות היחס לאלו אשר הוריהם עדיין אינם שומרי תורה ומצוה, פשוט שאין לדחות אותם, ואדרבה, ובהשתדלות המתאימה הנה סו"ס מצליחים לא רק לקרב הילדים לתורה ולמצותי' אלא להשפיע על ידם גם על ההורים וכל ב"ב וכנראה במוחש.
