To the members of the committee supporting the construction of a mikveh*, at Kfar Chabad*, in our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, may Hashem* grant you long life,

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have learned, with pleasure, of your effort to support the construction of the mikveh* of Kfar Chabad*, a town founded and directed by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. It is a matter of building and restoring its structure in the proper manner and of hastening all of this to the greatest extent possible. It is surely unnecessary to explain to all those who cherish the Torah* and the mitzvos* the greatness and importance of this accomplishment. Is there any greater proof than the well-known halachic* ruling according to which one may sell a Sefer Torah* to build a mikveh*?

It is therefore solely a matter (note 1: See, on this subject, Letter no. 5983) of strengthening and counseling eagerness, in order to lend one's assistance to this endeavor — in particular, according to the explanation of the Alter Rebbe*, in chapter 21 of the Iggeres HaKodesh*, emphasizing the importance of eagerness for all mitzvos*, and especially this one, which is also a form of tzedakah*, of good deed, as this text specifies. One knows the value that our Sages* accord to all of this, even when it is a matter of gaining a single day, as noted in Tractate Eruvin* 63b. This is particularly true in our generation, that of the ikvesa d'Meshicha*, as the end of our exile approaches, as my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, explained on numerous occasions.

Indeed, "purity leads to (note 2: holiness, and holiness brings about the coming of)... Eliyahu HaNavi*," the herald of our redemption. The effort of men will bring about the revelation of Hashem* and the fulfillment of the promise according to which: "I will take you... I will sprinkle pure waters upon you and you shall be purified... You shall dwell in the land... and you shall be My people, I will be your Elokim*."

בנועם נודעתי ע"ד פעולתם לתמוך בבנין המקוה אשר בכפר חב"ד, מיסודו ובהנהלתו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, למען יוכלו לבנות ולשכלל הבנין ככל הדרוש ולמהר גם בהקדם האפשרי.

ובודאי אשר כל חובבי תורה ומצוה, אין זקוקים לביאור גודל הענין וחשיבותו, ומה לנו הוכחה גדולה מפסק דין הידוע, אשר מוכרים ספר תורה לצרכי בנין מקוה טהרה.

ולא נצרכה אלא להעדפה ולזריזות בעזר האמור, וביחוד ע"פ המבואר באגה"ק לרבנו הזקן סי' כ"א גודל מעלת הזריזות בכל המצות, ובפרט מצוה האמורה, אשר גם בה יש מעין הצדקה ועשיית חסד המבואר באגה"ק שם. וידוע עד כמה הפליגו רז"ל בענין זה אפילו בקדימת יום אחד (עירובין סג, ב). וביחוד בדורנו עקבתא דמשיחא אשר מתקרב קץ גלותנו (וכידוע ביאורי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע כ"פ), אשר טהרה מביאה כו' אלי' הנביא, מבשר גאולתנו, ובאתעדל"ת אתעדל"ע וקיום היעוד ולקחתי אתכם וגו' וזרקתי עליכם מים טהורים וטהרתם וגו' וישבתם לארץ וגו' והייתם לי לעם ואנכי אהי' לכם לאלקים.
