To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, devotes himself to communal needs, and conducts himself uprightly, Rav Chananya Yutal* (note 1: Rav C. Y. May, of Brooklyn),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I have received your letter of 29 Kislev*, in which you describe the state of the Shaarei Tzedek* hospital and convalescent home in Jerusalem, following the discussion you had there during your visit. You do not speak of the preparations for the annual banquet of the support committee of this hospital. This means that they are proceeding well. In such a case, the customary manner of proceeding in this country is as follows: several participants send their contributions before the banquet, so that they may be announced during the event.

In any case, may Hashem* grant that your effort, of great importance, be crowned with success, so as to strengthen the financial situation of this institution of fundamental importance. It is certain that the members of the local committee, many of whom are well-known and occupy prominent positions in the Jewish community, will lend their collaboration to the fullest extent possible. This is their obligation and their merit.

P.S.: I enclose a check drawn on one of the funds established by my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. May Hashem* grant that the promise of our Sages* be fulfilled, according to which: "one who receives a coin from Iyov becomes wealthy" (note 2: And our Sages explain: "For he is a wholesome and upright man").

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מכ"ט כסלו, בו כותב אודות המצב של בית החולים ובית הבראה שערי צדק בירושלים ת"ו בהמשך להשיחה בעת בקורו.

וכיון שאינו מזכיר ע"ד ההכנות להמשתה השנתי של הועד להחזקת ביה"ח שערי צדק, בטח זהו סימן שההתעסקות בזה בסדר היא, והסדר בענינים כאלו במדינה זו, שכמה מהמשתתפים תורמים נדבות עוד מלפני המשתה ובלבד שיכריזו אודותם בעת המשתה.

ובכ"א יהי רצון שיצליח בהשתדלותו הכי חשובה לביסוס מעמדו ומצבו הכספי של המוסד חיוני זה, והרי ודאי שחברי ועד המקומי שרבים מהם בעלי שם ובעלי עמדה בצבור היהודי, ישתפו פעולה ככל יכולתם שהרי חובתם וזכותם היא.
