Igrot Kodesh · Letter 5953 — Faith & Bitachon
Volume 16 · Letter 181
By the grace of Hashem*,
26 Kislev* 5718,
Brooklyn,
To the holy Yeshivah*, at the holy community of
Buenos Aires, to the students, the teachers, the mashpia*,
and the directors,
may Hashem* grant you long life,
I greet you warmly and bless you,
I learned with pleasure, some time ago, of the founding of your holy Yeshivah*. My pleasure was increased upon learning that since its founding, you have developed quantitatively — through the number of students — and qualitatively — through the level of studies.
Undoubtedly, this development will bring encouragement to all. It will have the effect of motivating everyone to act even more, each in his domain, so that the Yeshivah* grows — quantitatively and qualitatively, as stated. In fact, each person can intervene in both domains, since a Jew possesses both a body and a soul — an animal soul and a Divine soul. And he must make use of them to serve his Creator, Who gives the Torah* and commands the mitzvos*, in accordance with the affirmation of the Mishnah* that: "I was created to serve my Creator."
These days are favorable for making good decisions and for taking action in this domain. Indeed, we have just experienced the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, which is, in the expression of our master, leader of Israel, the Rebbe Rashab*, in a letter he addressed to my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us: "the festival during which He redeemed our soul in peace, when the light and vitality of our soul were granted to us, in order to reveal the inner dimension of our holy Torah*, so that it illuminate the inner depth of our soul, to banish every unworthy and evil sentiment from our nature, to consecrate all our actions to the true objective, to the Name of Hashem* and to His Will — in our prayer, our Torah*, our mitzvos*, and in the worldly concerns necessary for the preservation of the body."
Furthermore, we are entering the period of Chanukah*, during which, when the sun sets outside, one kindles "the candle of Hashem* (which) is the soul of man," "the candle (which) is a mitzvah* and the Torah* (which) is a light" — in an ever-increasing manner, from one day to the next. And one does not content oneself with one's own domain; one does so "at the entrance of one's home, toward the outside." The allusive meaning of all this is quite clear. Our Sages* say that "the Holy One, blessed be He, does not deal craftily with His creatures." It is therefore certain that each person possesses the necessary strength to assume this holy mission and to do so precisely as the Creator commands — with joy and enthusiasm, in accordance with the expression of our great master, the Rambam*, in his Mishneh Torah*, at the end of the Laws of the Lulav*.
I enclose a check as a symbolic participation in the expenses of the holy Yeshivah*.
With my blessing for success in your sacred mission and for conveying good news of all this,
