To the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem*, of

numerous accomplishments, Rav Shlomo* (note 1: Rav S. Matusof, of Casablanca, Morocco. See, on his subject, Letter no. 5403),

Shalom* u'vracha*,

I am responding to your letter of 24 Marcheshvan* and 10 Kislev*, along with its contents. In the meantime, you have surely received mine, which was the response to your previous letter.

It is regrettable that you are discouraged because such-and-such a person complains and such-and-such another adopts bad conduct. This is how it is in our world, and it was the case during past years and generations — perhaps even in greater proportions than at the present time. Who is greater for us than the first communal leader after the giving of the Torah* — Moshe Rabbeinu* — who was the first to receive the holy Torah*? Despite this... (note 2: He was challenged and contested).

Quite the contrary — in this period, it is easier to act, for "the deeds of the fathers are signs for the children," since they have paved the way. Moreover, the difficulties and veils are lighter compared to what has been described (note 3: The challenges that Moshe Rabbeinu faced). Granted, who would dare compare himself to him, as the Alter Rebbe* observes in chapter 44 of the Tanya*? Nevertheless, how much more must one thereby be strengthened and encouraged. This is self-evident.

Moreover, we have entered, in these days, the month of Kislev* — a month of liberation and miracles — underscoring the necessity of adding more (note 4: In particular through the Chanukah lights, which are kindled in ascending order).

With my blessing to convey good news of all this and to benefit from this month with considerable success,

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ד מ"ח ויו"ד כסלו, והמוסגר בם, ובטח בינתים נתקבל מכתבי מענה על מכתבו הקודם.

וחבל שנופל ברוחו על מה שפלוני בא בטענה או שפלוני מתנהג באופן בלתי רצוי, שהרי זה נוהג עולמנו זה משנים ומדורות שעברו, ואפשר עוד בממדים גדולים יותר מאשר עתה, ומי לנו גדול מעסקן צבורי הראשון לאחר מתן תורה הוא משה רבנו, מקבל הראשון דתוה"ק, ובכל זה וכו', והרי אדרבה בימים אלו העבודה קלה יותר כיון שמעשה אבות סימן לבנים שכבר סללו הדרך, ועוד זאת שההעלמות וההסתרים קלים הם בערך הנ"ל, ואף שמי הוא זה ואיזהו אשר ערב לבו לגשת להדמות וכו' (וע"ד מ"ש רבנו הזקן בתניא פרק מ"ד), אבל חיזוק ועידוד ישנו מזה במכש"כ וק"ו, וק"ל.

ובפרט בימים אלו שנכנסנו לחדש כסלו הוא חדש הגאולה והנסים וההוראה אשר בו דמוסיף והולך.

בברכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור ומניצול ימי חדש זה בהצלחה מופלגה.
