To the Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Avraham Chanoch (note 1: Rav A. Ch. Glitsenstein, of Lod; see on his subject letter no. 5871),

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of the 2nd and 3rd of Kislev*, which you also write in your capacity as director of the Chabad Youth Association gathering, regarding the project of conducting a broadened campaign for the reading of Tehillim* according to its monthly division.

No lengthy explanation is needed to understand its importance. One can also deduce it from the letters of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*. However, this is not a specific action for the Chabad Youth, who must rather devote themselves to the spreading of the wellsprings* — that is, the study of Chassidus* and the adoption of its practices. Certainly, this is indeed one of those practices. Nevertheless, one may fear that by investing in this matter, one would weaken one's engagement in the other areas, which are essential. Moreover, such an action has no end.

In my view, you must therefore show courage and strengthen the actions that have already been begun. Furthermore, you must assist the Chabad schools of the Holy Land in all that concerns them. For the time being, you will not conceive of new actions, unless needs manifest themselves that are current and timely.

Naturally, all of this concerns your specific action to establish this practice (note 2: the reading of Tehillim*), but it is quite clear that you must seize every opportunity to recall it, as well as the studies of the Chumash* and the Tanya*.

You envision gathering the youth at Kfar Chabad* and I was pleased with this project. I hope that preparations will be made according to an established program. How much more so must the gathering itself have a program detailed in advance, with the appropriate enthusiasm — especially after the experience of past youth gatherings. One has seen the drawbacks resulting from the lack of such a program and the lack of coordination among the organizers. This is self-evident.

With my blessing to convey good tidings of all this,

N.B.: Such a gathering is practically a first. Without making a vow, I will therefore ask the Chassidim* to participate in a specific collection that will cover one-third of the expenses.

במענה למכתבו מב' וג' כסלו בו כותב ג"כ בתור ב"כ מאסיפת צעירי אגו"ח אודות הסברא לנהל תעמולה מורחבה אודות אמירת תהלים כפי שנחלק לימי החדש.

והנה אף שגודל הענין אין צריך אריכות וביאור וכמובן ג"כ ממכתבי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בזה, אבל לאידך גיסא אין זה ענינו המיוחד של צעירי אגו"ח, ז.א. עיקר עבודתם שהוא הפצת המעינות, כוונתי לימוד תורת החסידות והליכה בהדרכותי', אף שהנ"ל היא אחת התקנות וההדרכות, כיון שיש מקום לחשוש שע"י עסק תעמולה האמורה יחסר ביותר וביותר מעבודתם בשארי ענינים העיקרים ועוד שתעמולה האמורה אין לה קצבה... ולכן לדעתי עליהם להתאזר בכל עוז לבסס כל אותן הפעולות שכבר התחילו בהם, ונוסף עליהם סיוע למוסדות חב"ד אשר באה"ק ת"ו ככל התלוי בהם, ולע"ע לא לחשוב ע"ד פעולות חדשות בממדים רחבים, מלבד אם יהיו ענינים עומדים על הפרק ושהזמן גרמא.

מובן ופשוט שכל הנ"ל הוא בהנוגע לעבודה מיוחדה בהחדרת תקנה זו, אבל פשיטא שבכל הזדמנות יש להזכיר ולעורר ע"ד תקנה זו וכן אודות השיעור דחומש ותניא.

נהניתי מהסברא שכותב לכנוס של בני נוער בכפר חב"ד ותקותי שיעשו ההכנות ע"פ תכנית, ומכש"כ וק"ו שעצם הכנוס יהי' ע"י תכנית מפורטת מראש, ובמרץ הדרוש, ובפרט לאחרי הנסיון בכנוס הנוער שעבר, שראו הגרעונות שנגרמו ע"י חסרון תכנית מפורטת ואי-התדברות הפעילים בזה, וק"ל.

בברכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור.

כיון שכנוס זה הוא הנסיון כמעט הראשון בזה, הנה, בל"נ, אעורר אנ"ש להשתתף בזה ממגבית המיוחדה בשליש ההוצאה.
