To the great Rav*, the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav A. F. (note 1: Rav A. Friedman; see on his subject letter no. 5553),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter from the eve of Shabbos*. I thank you for the good tidings you give me about the Chassidim* there, and at a propitious moment, I will mention their names near the holy resting place (Ohel*) of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us. Without a doubt, he will invoke the great divine mercy for all of this, within all of Israel.

I thank you for what you wrote me concerning the Zohar* with the notes of my father (note 2: which was subsequently published under the title Likkutei Levi Yitzchak*), of blessed memory. You also make reference to the portrait of Rav Moshe Cheifetz. It seems to me that this has already been published, and perhaps that is what you are referring to.

You consider that, in the prayer for a sick person, the birth name is the most important (note 3: see on this subject letter no. 5553). I am very surprised that you can formulate such a statement, which goes against the Halachah* and the teachings of our Sages* regarding the addition of a name for a sick person. The Talmud* and the Poskim* (halachic authorities) make multiple references to this. And it is not without reason that, according to the Halachah*, the first name must be made to disappear, to the point that a bill of divorce (get*) mentioning it would be invalidated according to the Torah*. All of this is surprising. Moreover, by changing a sick person's name, one also changes the verdict pronounced against him. Should one then, when praying for him, recall the name regarding which this verdict was pronounced?

You will surely participate in the Chassidic* gathering (farbrengen*) on the luminous day of the 19th of Kislev*, the Rosh Hashanah* of Chassidus*. May Hashem grant that it leave its imprint on all the days of the year.

With my blessing to convey good tidings,
