To the young man Zussya (note 1: Z. Posner, of Lod),

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 27 Marcheshvan* and I await the continuation of your good tidings. Everyone among the Chassidim*, and in particular among the young men, does everything in his power to make use of the days of Kislev* in general, and of the 19th of Kislev* and Chanukah* in particular, in order to spread the wellsprings* (note 2: of Chassidus*) outward.

We can verify concretely, as the Alter Rebbe* explains in chapter 14 of Iggeres HaKodesh*, that each year a new possibility, a new opportunity is granted to act in this direction. However, in recent years, the full benefit has not been drawn from this. And you know the saying that the past must deliver a lesson for the future. This is self-evident.

Naturally, these words are addressed not only to you but to all those who were mentioned earlier. May Hashem grant that they too act accordingly, with the greatest eagerness. It is in this way that the success will be the most considerable.

With my blessing to convey good tidings of all this, and also regarding what concerns you personally,

...בודאי כל אחד מאנ"ש והצעירים ביחוד עושה כל התלוי בו לנצל ימי חדש כסלו בכלל וי"ט כסלו וחנוכה ביחוד בענין הפצת המעינות חוצה, והרי רואים במוחש את המבואר באגה"ק לרבנו הזקן סי' י"ד איך שבכל שנה ושנה נתוספה האפשרית והיכולת לעשות בזה, אלא שבשנים שעברו לא ניצלו אותם ככל האפשרי וידוע הפתגם, שהעבר צריך ללמד את העתיד, וק"ל. ומובן שדברי אלה מכוונים לא רק אליו, אלא לכל האמורים לעיל, ויהי רצון שבמרץ הכי גדול יעשו בהנ"ל ובמילא תהי' בהצלחה הכי גדולה.
