To the attention of Mr. Mordechai Surkis,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter, confirming that you received mine wishing you a good year. May Hashem fully accomplish the blessings that Jews wish one another.

You tell me that you do not know by what merit you have obtained that I think of you (note 1: see on this subject letter no. 1790, paragraph G). In fact, it would have been surprising if this were not the case, since you direct a place in which there are many Jewish men and women, each of them being an entire world.

Divine Providence has granted me the merit to intervene in the domain of education, with your help for the premises and the subsidies. The hundreds of students educated to this day in this school, and those who will be in the future, remind me not only of themselves but also of all the people who lend their assistance to provide them with this education, in the spirit of the Tradition of Israel.

I hope that your efforts and your help will increase in proportion. Thus, not only will any possibility of not being remembered (note 2: the addressee of this letter) be eliminated, but moreover, the closeness in general will be strengthened, and that which concerns the school in particular. You have the merit of being influential in your city. Now, according to the well-known expression of our Sages*, "nothing is without purpose in the world." I therefore have good hope, and even the conviction, that you will make full use of your influence in this matter. In advance, I thank you warmly. Moreover, this accomplishment itself thanks you.

In accordance with your custom of last year and of previous years, you will surely visit Kfar Chabad* this year as well, on the luminous day of the 19th of Kislev* that is approaching — the date of Chassidic* motivation, remembrance, and victory — with the motto that "love of one's fellow, love of the Torah*, and love of Hashem form a single entity."

שמברכים אחב"י זה את זה יקיימן השי"ת במילואן.

ובמה שכותב שאיננו יודע במה זכה שאזכרהו, הנה אדרבה פלא הי' אילו לא הייתי זוכרהו, בה בשעה שכ' הוא ראש המקום בו נמצאים כמה וכמה מבני ובנות ישראל, כ"י, שכל אחד מהם הוא עולם מלא, וההשגחה העליונה זיכתה אותי שיכול אני לעשות מה בהנוגע לחינוכם ובסיועו של מר בהנוגע לבנינים ותמיכות וכיו"ב. והרי כל מאות הילדים שנתחנכו עד עתה והמתחנכים כעת בבי"ס זה מזכירים אותי לא רק על אודותם הם, אלא גם על כל המסייעים בחנוכם ברוח ישראל סבא. ותקותי אשר ההשתדלות והסיוע של מר יהיו באופן של מוסיף והולך, שעל ידי זה לא רק יהי' מושלל כל העדר זכירה אלא אדרבה יגדל יחס הקירוב בכלל ובענין ביה"ס ביחוד. וכיון שזכה להשפעה במחנו, הנה על פי מאמר חכמינו ז"ל הידוע אשר אין בבריאה דבר אחד לבטלה, תקותי חזקה וגם בטוחני אשר כ' ינצל השפעתו במילואה בכיון האמור, ותודתי חמה נתונה מראש, נוסף על מה שהענין עצמו אומר תודה.

בטח במנהגו הטוב אשתקד ולפני זה, יבקר גם השתא בכפר חב"ד ביום הבהיר הוא י"ט כסלו הבא, ימי התעוררות וזכרון לנצחון החסידות והסיסמא אשר אהבת ישראל אהבת התורה ואהבת השם כולא חד הוא...
